I find me again a picture in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me, It is always a great pleasure in reviving these wonderful memorable moment in family trips. There are many things to see in my lovely Bretagne, and we have been to many and there are many more to be seen, This is Crozon peninsula in the Finistére dept 29 of my lovely Bretagne and my belle France, Therefore, here is my take on the Fort Cézon of Île de l’Aber in Crozon !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
It juts out far into the sea at the île de l’Aber, and, due to this strategic position offering a view of the entire Bay of Douarnenez, Vauban fortified it in 1694, then, in 1862, fort Cézon was built there, to prevent any landings in the coves of Morgat and Telgruc , A coastal battery and a guardhouse serving as a redoubt for the coastal battery, was built to prevent English incursions, following the English fleet’s presence in Douarnenez Bay in the 1810s. It originally included a troop room, a powder magazine, and a water cistern. It was abandoned during the mobilization of 1914 (WWI) ,and reoccupied by the nazis in 1940, who built several batteries there, the ruins of which still remain. At its tip, you will also see numerous traces of military installations, many dating from WWII.

This fort Cézon, located on the southern part of the Île de l’Aber, is only accessible at low tide. Originally surrounded by a moat, now filled in, it was accessed via a drawbridge and a stone staircase leading to the crenellated terrace. It is a variation of the standard plan of July 31, 1846. Square in shape 15.75 meters per side, the masonry walls are made of schist rubble. No modifications have been made to the structure since, except for a few traces related to the nazis occupation during WWII. This redoubt is partially concealed from the sea by the open-air battery built in front of it, consisting of two parts , a mortar battery ,and a gun battery, separated by a traverse.
