The foodie in Vannes , part II !!!

As said, we come by here always, we eat here , enjoy it here ,ride boats here, and do shopping galore on many items yet I need to tell you more, I was by there again for the opening of a new chain of restaurants! I will tell you the Yanks keep coming back and spreading all over France for some weird for us brings back many nice memories, Of course, this is Vannes, in my beautiful Morbihan dept 56, in my lovely Bretagne, and in my belle France. Therefore, here again the foodie in Vannes , part II !!! Hope you enjoy it as I

We had our apero lunch at le P’tit Belon (previous from early in the 20C it was called the Café de Manu) oyster bar right behind the covered fish market, Halles aux Poissons, (see post) and on a market day like today even better. The market covers many streets but primarily the squares of place des lices and place du poids public.  Here we had our Fischer beers (2)(Alsace), saussison sec bellota ham , 6 oysters, and sandwiches of bellota hams and cheese all for about 8€ per person.  3 place de la Poissonnerie. On our way out near the Porte Saint Vincent coming out into the place Gambetta you have the bakery Saveurs du Port, delicious sweets and even better breads of chorizo, lardon, and champagne tradition as well as the usual baguette. We grab them all! and will be part of our dinner tonite! The official boulangerie Saveurs du Port : https://www.saveursduport.com/

The Les Valseuses, a popular bar here near the gate or porte Potern and behind the Chateau de l’Hermine and the gardens of the Garenne. This is the Les Valseuses, the name derives from a hotty French movie of 1974 with Gerard Depardieu Patrick Dewaere, Jeanne Moreau ,and Miou-Miou ;on the first  grand role of Isabelle Huppert. This was a film someone might call it porno but not classified as such with only a under 12 audience in France. The bar has posters of the film all over , there is a front entrance room and the bar on your left, then another room and a bigger room in the back. All around dotted with medium size screen TV’s showing sports events. The outside or right hand side of the building ,there is an outdoor terrace with live music shows as well as inside in the back big room. The crowd has all kinds of ages showing up but adults. And we will be back to the Les Valseuses eventually to continue our ins and outs of Vannes. Great cheers and good times on a Friday night by the ramparts of Vannes. That is my suggestion , and we went to a place been a couple times with colleagues from work , this time came with my boys to Le Tarmac in rue Ferdinand le Dressay on the other side of the pleasure boats marina canal that takes out to the Gulf of Morbihan and eventually to the Atlantic Ocean! This was just one time, we have come back several times more, see posts.  They have a terrace right on the sidewalk facing the canals, and then a streel level room and a very cozy first level or 2nd floor. The service is friendly and prompt, the prices very reasonable and the food is good. We had tapas dish of accras (codfish cake), with breaded shrimp ,crackers tortilla Mexican style with guacamole sauce for 8,50€ and hot dogs with fries for the boys, all with a bottle of Vigne Antique côte de Provence rosé 2016 wine all came about for 15€ per person!!. The Le Thika restaurant is at 11 bis Rue Thomas de Closmadeuc in old town, right off Rue Thiers and across from the Hôtel de Ville, It is Czech-French couple and they do nice sandwiches indeed, We purchase the chicken base meli melo poulet that was offered as the donation base for Ukraine, We , also got vanilla and caramel milkshake all for 14,30 euros per person. Delicious and worthy. The official Le Thika resto : https://lethika.fr/

Another nice spot came first on a lunch out with collegues of work was the Balade en Crêpanie at 21 Rue de la Fontaine. The crêperie with exposed stones and beams is installed in a 16C half-timbered house. On sunny days, you will be happy to show you around the terrace which is located in a flowered and shaded backyard. The walls of the creperie are graciously made available to artists (painters, photographers, etc.). Come and discover their works, and enjoy these wonderful houses that color our streets forever! The building at 8 Rue Joseph le Brix houses the Chez Suzette resto great on snacks crêpes sandwiches etc sitting on the corner of rue Billault and rue Joseph Le Brix, The building was built in 1928 with granite rubble, on the site of a mid-19C house, This building was built in the gardens of the old moats of the rampart, destroyed, on a site that was virgin until 1840, but was built with two houses on 1863. It was built in two close campaigns, because of this double plot: the first is prior to 1897, and concerns the five east bays. It was extended to the west by three spans shortly after its construction on the site of this old house. It could have been raised by one floor at the beginning of the 20C. The attic floor was created on the attics in the second half of the 20C. No web

Nestled in the historic medieval heart of Vannes, the Brasserie Le Cardinal located at 7 Place Saint-Pierre opened in June 2021 within a fully restored 16C building. Following a complete renovation including extensive restoration and interior design work, the restaurant now offers high-quality, locally sourced cuisine in a setting that is both cozy and refined. Its “bistrot-style” terrace faces the cathedral, set right on the cobblestones of the Old Town The official Brasserie Le Cardinal : https://www.lecardinalvannes.fr/

We end up the evening with dinner at Les Oliviers , 60, ave de Verdun, near the train station of Vannes.  This time the gang join us for a family affair in one of the better restaurants in the city. My boss took me here once and now the family. The cooking here is market fresh and with gastronomic taste so refine and local reservation is a must, small restaurant, tops produce. It has since closed, here for the memories of always,

Once done, we headed for the new restaurant chain in Vannes, that is Popeyes Lousiana Kitchen (fry Chicken) ! Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits (aka Popeyes) is a fast food chain serving fried chicken. It has been owned by Brands International Restaurant since 2017. Popeyes to become the reference in the world of fried chicken with already more than 3,900 restaurants in the United States and worldwide! The company was first called Popeyes Mighty Good Fried Chicken, opened its first establishment in 1972 under the name of Popeye Family Fried Chicken in Arabi, a suburbs of New Orleans. Al Copeland was then the owner. Copeland said he named his restaurant after Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle (played by Gene Hackman), fictional detective who is the main character in the film French Connection (Doyle was also inspired by Eddie Egan). Contrary to what the general public could think, this nickname was therefore not inspired by Popeye.
