The Cathedral Notre Dame de Paris fire of April 15, 2019. As you might know , this is a symbol of Paris , sometimes more so than the Eiffel and the whole country is behind it. The French private TV channel ,TF 1 has decided to slam the door of the inauguration of Notre-Dame, furious to see France Télévisions (govt) grab the whole reopening ceremony. On December 7 and 8,2024 the cathedral will reopen five years after the fire in April 2019. An event expected by millions of French people and not only Catholics. Which will give rise to 48 hours of festivities, around three highlights: on Saturday, at the end of the day, a religious ceremony inside Notre-Dame then, in stride, another more secular outside the cathedral during which Emmanuel Macron, surrounded by several dozen foreign heads of state, will give a speech on the forecourt. And the Archbishop of Paris refuse to let Macron give a presentation inside the cathedral as the place is not political but a place of God !! Bravo Mgr Laurent Ulrich!

Symbol of Notre-Dame de Paris, the statue of the Virgin of the Pillar, miraculous of the fire of April 15, 2019, will be back this Friday evening in the cathedral, at the end of a torchlight procession between Saint-Germain Auxerrois Church and Notre Dame Cathedral.To the right of the altar, of the statue of the Virgin and Child nicknamed “Notre Dame de Paris” or “The Virgin of the Pillar” ,The statue lives its ultimate hours in the heart of the building opposite the Louvre museum . This Friday at the end of the day, the one who was accommodated there provisionally will regain, five and a half years after leaving her house where she was admired by millions of visitors, also venerated by believers: our Cathédrale Notre Dame de Paris. This is the very sign that we approach reopening !!

On Saturday December 7 2024 at the end of the afternoon, just after Emmanuel Macron’s speech on the forecourt, the Archbishop of Paris, Mgr Laurent Ulrich, will knock, with his cross, at the closed door of Notre-Dame . The cathedral responds to him with the song of Psalm 121, three times, it is decrypted in the diocese of Paris. The door opens, the official ceremonies of December 7 and 8 to celebrate the “resurrection” of the cathedral five and a half years after being ravaged by the flames, can start. After opening the doors, the office of December 7 must take place in three parts. It begins with the awakening of the large organ. After a sign of the cross, the archbishop proceeds to the blessing of the instrument with the 8,000 completely restored pipes. He will challenge the organ that begins to answer for him, a hymn followed, the song of the Magnificat, prayer intentions for the whole world and the recitation of our father. Finally, this first cult moment ends with the final blessing of the Archbishop and the song of Te Deum, accompanied by the famous choirs of the Notre-Dame de Paris. The priests will wear the liturgical clothes designed by the colorful creator Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. The next day, Sunday, December 8,2024 Mass, chaired by the Archbishop of Paris, marked by the consecration of the major altar. He renews this gesture with the altar and the ambon (desk for readings), a sign of purification which shows that these movable elements are not like the others, and that they are intended for sacred use. In order for the Mass to be celebrated, the altar must then be prepared, and consecrated by special rites. It begins with the deposition of relics, sealed in the altar, of two saints and three saintes whose history is linked to the church of Paris, the holy chrême, of blessed oil, is then widespread on the altar before an incense offering.

From Sunday 8 to Saturday 14 December,2024 Notre-Dame Cathedral of Paris will reopen, with an entrance up to 22h (10 pm), a free ticket system will allow individuals to reserve a entry the day before, or the same day, The visit, on December 16,2024 ordinary life will resume with 15 million visitors expected each year in the cathedral !
