We are in summer, and we have boundless beauties in my belle France and especially in my lovely Bretagne ! I set out again to known and new territories in my road warrior mode of always that took me to neighboring departments in the north of Brittany, I came back again to the beautiful wonderful stunning corsair City of Saint Malo !!. My idea was to see old and new so I came back to do some walk warrior trails, and found me a beauty, I have many posts on the City in my blog, but this one is a repeat visit, Therefore, let me tell you about the Chapelle Saint Aaron of Saint Malo !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The small Chapelle Saint Aaron, located at the highest point on Saint-Malo 3 de la place Saint-Aaron. was consecrated in 1621. It replaced an older chapel dating back to the 15C and bears the name of the first hermit who arrived at this location in the 6C. We do not know anything else about this person other than the fact that according to local tradition he is considered to be the first inhabitant of this location and consequently he welcomed Saint Malo upon his arrival from what is now Great Britain. On the death of Saint Aaron in 552, Saint Malo succeeds him even becoming the first bishop of Alet (old name Saint Malo). According to an old account of the life of Saint Malo (9C), he died at Saintes (Charente-Maritime 17). His relics were brought and placed alongside Saint Aaron’s relics. Saint Malo is considered by the Bretons to be one of the seven saints who founded Brittany, and in honour of whom the traditional Tro-Breiz or tour of Brittany pilgrimage is held. In 1902, the chapel was surrounded as a result of extensions to the high school, Lycée Institution de Saint-Malo – La Providence. People still go there for certain religious ceremonies.

The facade measures approximately 6 meters wide and about 5 meters long ! The main facade is oriented to the west. It includes a single door, surmounted by a bay, then a bell and a cross at the top of the gable. There are also two bays on the southern facade. Saint Aaron was born in Wales or Armorica (Bruc-sur-Aff) according to other sources. But it was only in 507 that he decided to live on the small hill located in the middle of a marsh (now intramuro). Particularly believing, it seduces many faithful with which they found a community and build a monastery. Saint Aaron’s skull and right-handed arm were embedded and exhibited in Saint-Vincent Cathedral. His portrait is visible in the Cathedral of Rennes on a painting by Alphonse Le Hénaff, procession of the saints of Brittany (1876).
