Archaeological excavations, carried out as part of a study prior to the construction of a new RER exit at Port-Royal station (14éme), have brought to light these remains of a Lutèce necropolis dating, according to estimates , from the 2C !. As stated by Gwenaëlle Desforges, archaeologist for Inrap (National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research), reveals the skeleton of an individual who probably lived in the 2C. The specialist finishes excavating a tomb in the great necropolis of Lutèce. Three meters above this marked pit, Parisian life follows its course: we are on Avenue de l’Observatoire, on the border of the 5éme and 14éme arrondissements. this great necropolis in the south of Lutèce, which spread over 4 hectares, has been known since the development of Paris by Baron Haussmann in the 19C. Many burials had been found at the time, but this is the first time it has been seen since. The piece of ancient cemetery that Inrap has been digging since March 6 2023 measures only 200 square meters, but no less than fifty tombs have been unearthed there. Also, a lead sarcophagus dating from the 14C and pieces of the old rood screen of Notre-Dame Cathedral destroyed in the 17C, After the sectors of the sarcophagus and that of the rood screen, there remains a third to be excavated with masonry which could be part of an old state of the Gothic cathedral, or even of a more earlier building, the Romanesque cathedral on which we have very few elements. The treasures discovered by archaeologists from the National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (Inrap) are exceptional. The sarcophagus first. If it is not surprising to find one from this period in a church and that we know that Notre-Dame overlooks at least 400 graves, it is unique in its kind since it is the only one discovered in Paris. . For the pieces of rood screen, it is rather the shallow depth and the quality of their preservation that are of concern. Ah underneath Paris has another City indeed !!

A veritable institution in the Nord (north of France), the chip shop (French fries) is the unmissable popular and gourmet break. In a cone or in a tray, samurai or Algerian sauce From the Baie de Somme to Lens, passing through Lille and as far as the Côte d’Opale, the vapors of hot oil always float somewhere in the air above the cities, beaches and countryside. And for good reason: never far away, always golden brown, the famous deep-fried potato sticks are an integral part of the local culinary heritage. These small eateries mounted on wheels appeared for the first time in Belgium in the middle of the 19C. At the time, these fry shops had the function of serving fast food to workers directly at the exit of the factories. During the 20C, these mobile, caravan-like mini-restaurants grew in popularity. They are modernizing, motorizing and invading the north of France for years. Some fo the better known and I tasted the first one are : Friterie Meunier, Au Petit Festin, and Sensas, Webpage : https://www.friterie-meunier.fr/
