This is one of those towns we came in my local road warrior trails while living in Versailles, the choices are endless just here alone. It is worth the detour for the quant pretty real towns and villages of my former Yvelines dept 78, I am glad to have found me these pictures in my cd rom vault that made me do it for you and me. The town of Andrésy is located in the Yvelines department no, 78 ,in the Île-de-France region of my belle France. Therefore, here is my take on the Church Saint Germain of Andrésy !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Church Saint Germain is located at 14 Boulevard Noël-Marc, dating from the end of the 12C to the first quarter of the 13C. It is in the Gothic style with an elongated plan, featuring a central nave with a triforium and clerestory windows, and two side aisles, all vaulted with ribbed vaults, and ending in a flat apse.

The Church Saint Germain comprises a nave of five bays, the first of which serves as the base for the bell tower and is subdivided horizontally between a narthex and an organ loft; a chancel of three bays of the same height and width as the nave; a south aisle that reaches half the width and height of the central nave; four small rectangular chapels in front of the last four bays of the south aisle; and a north aisle of eight bays, which is almost as wide as the nave and south aisle combined. The central nave has three levels on the south side, with the level of the great arcades, the triforium, and the clerestory, which also corresponds to the original state of the north elevation. The church is accessed through the eastern portal of the north aisle or through the western portal of the nave.

It houses several protected religious objects, including a statue of Saint Vincent, an altarpiece with a painting of Saint Hilary of Poitiers, and various sculptures representing saints and the Virgin and Child. The church once housed four bells, including the famous Germaine bell, weighing 1,670 kilograms, cast in 1864 from the old bell of 1605 and coins bearing inscriptions referring to Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie.

A bit of history I like tell us that the first known mention of Andrésy appears in letters from Inchad, Bishop of Paris from 811 to 831, confirmed at the Council of Paris in 829. Andresiacum was the first piece of land he donated to the chapter of Paris. Charles II the Bald confirmed this donation. It can be assumed that the parish is as old as the town. Andrésy is part of a parish grouping with Conflans-Sainte-Honorine and Maurecourt under the title of Catholic Parishes of the Confluence. The construction period of this church, of considerable size and fine craftsmanship, can be dated between the late 12C and early 13C. Like most of the large churches in the region, it underwent structural modifications after the Hundred Years’ War. Beginning in 1517, the eastern half of the south aisle was rebuilt and fitted with four small rectangular chapels, all in the Flamboyant Gothic style. A generation later, during the reign of Francis I, a more extensive expansion was undertaken on the north side. To add a large side aisle, almost as wide as the nave and its south aisle combined, the old north aisle was demolished, and the northern elevation of the central nave was subsequently underpinned. The Renaissance side aisle is remarkable for its capitals, and three stained-glass windows, some of which are original. Two other 16C stained-glass windows remain in the south aisle.
