This is Guerville !!

I am , again reviving old glories of my former home, as I used to lived not far from here, and passed by on occasions. This is deep countryside on a quant village of Guerville. I am able to do this post as found me pictures in my cd rom vaults that should be in my blog for you and me. Anyway ,this is a nice off the beaten path village that is worth a detour, me think. Therefore, let me tell you on this is Guerville !!! Hope you enjoy as I.

The village of Guerville is located in the Yvelines department no 78, in the Île-de-France region of my belle France. It sits on the left bank of the Seine river, Transportation is primarily provided by the D113 departmental road, which follows the Seine along the northern edge of the town, and by the D158 departmental road, which passes through the village. These two roads converge at the entrance to Mantes-la-Ville. Parallel to the RD 113, the A13 Autoroute de Normandie crosses near the village, The village is 8 km from Mantes la Jolie by exit/sortie 11 of the A13, 444 km from current home, and 47 km from Versailles from where we came along the bd de la Reine right onto Bd du Roi bear left on Place de la Loi onto the Bd Saint Antoine, continue to Route Saint Germain or D186 road continue same road becomes Route de Versailles to connect with the A13 autoroute dir Rouen continue to exit/sortie 11 Mantes Est get on briefly on the D983 road dir Limay long loop road bear left onto the D113 road dir Guerville stay on left lane continue on Guerville panel continue to roundabout bearing left onto Rue du 8 mai 1945 back onto the D113 road or route Saint Germain before the Pont de Mare with railroad tracks on your left , bear right onto Route de Guerville or D158 road this road changes name but continue on the D158 into a right turn into Guerville Centre on Rue Pierre Curie continue to City center and bear right on place de la Mairie and quick left onto Rue de la Libération ,the wash house is marked on your right hand side,

There are 8 wash houses in the village of Guerville. The lavoir de La Guitelle wash house by the Guitelle spring, which irrigates many gardens and then joins the Senneville stream after a fairly long journey. The wash house is found on the Breuil Bois Robert road or Rue de la Libération which somehow I was in my road warrior trails and passed in front of it,

The Chapelle Saint Germain de Secqueval , probably built in the 11C or 12C, and renovated in the 19C is now in ruins. The chapel stands on a spur overlooking the Seine Valley. This place of worship is largely attributable to the Romanesque period. It is a quadrangular chapel with a flat apse, marked at the corners by slight buttresses. Two round-arched windows opened on each side of the chapel, which was accessed through a door in the wall. It is currently owned by the village.

Other things to see here are the 12C Church of Saint-Martin, with its pointed bell tower covered in flat tiles. The Chapel of Saint John the Baptist in Senneville and the Saint John fountain. The chapel was built over a spring dedicated to Saint John, a spring with reputed curative properties and which was once the object of worship.

A bit of history tell us that in the 12C, the village belonged, in part, to Lord Henri de Guerville. In 1565, the Carthusian monks became the lords of Guerville. In 1955, from May 25th to July 28th, Gilles Grangier filmed scenes for the film Gas-Oil, starring Jean Gabin and Jeanne Moreau, in front of and inside the school on Rue Saint Jean in the hamlet of Senneville.
