I like to take you back to a nice beach town that has wonderful monuments, and glad to have found me pictures in my cd rom vault to share in my blog for you and me ,Another nice town of Plouharnel in my beautiful Morbihan and lovely Bretagne of my belle France, Therefore, he is my take on the Chapelle Saint Antoine et Saint Eloi of Plouharnel !! Hope you enjoy the post as I,
I pass by it almost every weekend , and did not recall had pictures of this chapel out in the country along the D781 road just south of me in the peninsula of Quiberon just before the town. This town is located at the bottom of Quiberon Bay, 25 km from my house.
The Chapelle Saint Anthony and Saint Eloi ,the fountain, calvary, and lec’h ,a type of stone hut together form a pleasing ensemble. The chapel was built in the 18C. The existence of a Roman temple or villa can be inferred, as debris was found in the wall to the west of the chapel, a wall that was unfortunately demolished. The calvary and the fountain date from the same period. As for the lec’h, it is older, but it was intentionally placed there, a common practice in Brittany. The statues on either side are of Saint Anthony and Saint Eligius (Eloi) , whose veneration is very popular in rural areas, and who are invoked to protect livestock and horses. The Pardon of Saint Anthony takes place on the fourth Sunday of September.

The Chapelle Saint Anthony and Saint Eloi has a nave ceiling shaped like an upturned boat hull; it is painted the blue of the Virgin, and the sea, and studded with stars. A slender wooden Christ hangs on his cross, his ribs protruding, his head round and his mouth bitter.

Saint Anthony, appears several times no fewer than fifty times! The most famous is Anthony the Great, father of all monks, a hermit in Upper Egypt in the 4C before establishing a community in Fayum. Saint Athanasius wrote his biography because he died at over 90 years old. He is depicted with a T-shaped cross and a pig, originally symbolizing the devil.
