The Church Notre Dame de La Salette of Paris !!!

These are wonderful monuments of my belle France. Whether believer or not these tell the history and architecture of France that are a must to see while here, Indeed they are very popular by locals and tourists alike, I walked by this church as are many glad to found me new pictures in my cd rom vault to show in my blog for you and me. This one is a find in an off beatean path area of my eternal Paris, Therefore, let me tell you a bit on the Church Notre Dame de La Salette of Paris !!!  Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Church Notre Dame de La Salette is located at 38 rue de Cronstadt, with another entrance at 27 rue de Dantzig in the 15éme arrondissement of Paris. It is dedicated to Notre Dame de La Salette, particularly revered by the Vincentian Fathers (St Vincent de ¨Paul).

The main entrance is located on Rue de Cronstadt. Its double walnut doors, depict Christ and the Virgin of La Salette accompanied by the two children who witnessed the apparition. Once inside, one finds oneself in a haven isolated from the secular world and the surrounding City,

Inside, its original circular design ensures maximum visibility for the congregation. The walls are devoid of any decoration. Sixteen pillars support the vaults, and the dome is pierced by sixteen stained-glass windows with geometric patterns. The bells are concealed in the ridge. The ambulatory pews come from the former Chapel of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. The oval altar consists of a solid travertine slab, 20 cm thick, 2 m long, and 80 cm wide, weighing a total of 2.5 tons. The church is extended by a pre-existing sanctuary, also named Notre-Dame-de-La-Salette, which houses relics of the holy Curé d’Ars, Clément Myionnet, and Maurice Maignen, as well as the tomb of Blessed Father Henri Planchat, the first priest of the congregation, who was executed during the Paris Commune, and that of Venerable Jean-Léon Le Prévost, founder of the Congregation of the Religious of Saint Vincent de Paul, who still serve the parish today. The organ, a Danion-Gonzalez from 1970, also offers a varied cultural program of concerts.

The first chapel on this site was built in 1858 by the Vincentian Fathers. This Catholic congregation, founded in 1845 by Jean-Léon Le Prévost, Clément Myionnet, and Maurice Maignen, had established an orphanage in this neighborhood in 1853. After the healing of three of their orphans, the priests decided to build a chapel dedicated to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. The chapel was enlarged in 1886 but destroyed in 1969. As for the orphanage, it was replaced by the Foyer Le Prévost, which today houses young people. It is a ten-story building, under whose vaulted ceiling one must pass to reach the new church, whose construction began in 1963 and was completed in 1965. This new church is built on former quarries and rests on twenty-six masonry shafts, twelve of which are between 18 and 20 meters deep and penetrate the quarried layers down to the bedrock.

There , my parents born in Cuba met and later on I was born there too. 100% guanche (annexed Tenerife to Spain on April 10 ,1496). I left Cuba as many have to Madrid, Spain where I lived for 4 years. Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
