This an area where I spent many times on meetings and gathering on same avenue and surprise not found a picture on this monument until now, As usual digging in my cd rom vault found me a picture that should be in my blog for you and me, Therefore, here is my take on the conservatoire Sergei-Rachmaninoff de Paris !! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The conservatoire Sergei-Rachmaninoff de Paris,or the Serge Rachmaninoff Conservatory of Paris was founded in Paris in 1923. It is located at 26 Avenue de New York, in the 16éme arrondissement. The class instruction is given in French, Russian, or English. In keeping with its origins and the Russian musical tradition, the disciplines taught have gradually expanded to combine tradition and modernity. Today, it is offered in individual or group classes.

The history of the Conservatory, its artists, and the hundreds of prominent figures from the Russian émigré community who have been associated with it are also explored. It was to contribute to the promotion of Russian musical and theatrical art that the Imperial Russian Musical Society was founded in Saint Petersburg in 1859. It was established the Imperial Conservatories of Russia: the Saint Petersburg Conservatory in 1862, followed by the Moscow Conservatory in 1866. The Sergei Rachmaninoff Conservatory was founded in 1923 by former professors from the Imperial Conservatories of Russia who had emigrated to Paris following the 1917 Russian revolution. Among them was the pianist and composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, who became its first honorary president.
To further promote Russian art in Paris and throughout France, the Russian Musical Society in France was founded on February 20, 1931. As part of its mission, which aligns with that of the Imperial Russian Musical Society, it assumed the management of the conservatory Prince Serge Wolkonsky became the conservatory’s first director in 1932. From 1986, the Russian Musical Society in France was presided over by Count Pierre Cheremetieff. In 1987, when Charles Jourdan, the owner of the building on Avenue de New York, wanted to sell, the Mayor of Paris, Jacques Chirac, saved it by purchasing it. After some fifteen difficult years, at the end of 2020, the Russian Musical Society evolved, aiming to enrich its musical offerings and develop international relations with other prestigious conservatories. To mark this occasion, the mansion was renovated. Classrooms, a concert hall, and a Russian canteen are spread across 600 square meters on three floors. On April 1, 2025, a monument to the composer Sergei Rachmaninoff was unveiled in the conservatory’s garden.
