Let me bring you to a very educational and historical spot in my eternal Paris , and a very interesting place to visit , me think, This is a library with a lot of history of France that many do not dare to visit, We do come to Paris ,and one of the thing to do is to see these wonderful monuments for the architecture and history and glorious walks. Do read my other posts on it in my blog. Therefore, let me tell you about the  Bibliothéque National de France , site Richelieu on the Jardin Vivienne !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

With the reopening of the Richelieu site, a 1,900 m² green space has been created in the cour Vivienne courtyard. Designed as part of the “1% for Art” program, the landscaped creation, called “Hortus papyrifer” or “Paper Garden,” based on paper-producing plants, is fully integrated into the history of the site. The Jardin Vivienne garden was designed by artist and gardener Gilles Clément, landscape designer Antoine Quénardel, and heritage architect Mirabelle Croizier. Their project, entitled Hortus papyrifera, introduces numerous paper-producing plants known for their use in the production of writing and printing materials: mulberry, bamboo, and papyrus. This garden thus establishes a clear link with the Library, an iconic repository of works on paper. The garden is located precisely where Cardinal Mazarin had the garden of his palace laid out in the 17C. Having disappeared in the 18C when the Stock Exchange moved into the Mansart Gallery, it was recreated in the mid-19C by Henri Labrouste, who redesigned a formal French garden around a basin adorned with a central fountain that defined four lawns. The current pathways evoke these grand designs and are conceived to harmonize with the façades of the Hôtel Tubeuf and the Mansart Wing, echoing the clay brickwork in various shades on the ground. The fountain has been transformed into a basin planted with aquatic plants, providing a unique environment and a new ecological habitat.

The Richelieu site is the historical home of the National Library of France (BnF). It houses: the BnF’s research rooms for the specialized departments: Performing Arts, Maps and Plans, Prints and Photography, Manuscripts, Coins, Medals and Antiquities, and Music (access reserved for those with a valid Research Pass), the Oval Room, a free reading and relaxation area open to all, the BnF Museum, the Mansart Gallery – Pigott Gallery, which hosts temporary exhibitions, the library of the National Institute of Art History, and the library of the École Nationale des Chartes. A true hub for researchers in art history and heritage studies, it is also open to the public for visits to the architectural spaces, the museum, exhibitions, and cultural events. Please note: reservations are strongly recommended for all visitors to the museum and exhibitions to avoid waiting and guarantee a place.

The BnF’s Richelieu site, built in 1721, this advanced age explains its very lengthy renovation over the past 10 years. This historic site reopened its doors on the weekend of September 17th and 18th, 2022, for European Heritage Days. To continue modernizing the site while preserving its historical richness, a café, a garden, and a bookshop have been added. In total, the site covers 58,000 square meters spread over thirteen levels. The Jardin Vivienne Garden , open to the public, and visitors can explore the architecture of the site via a self-guided tour. New spaces, previously closed to visitors, are now accessible, such as the Louis XV drawing room and Mazarin’s bedroom.

There , my parents born in Cuba met and later on I was born there too. 100% guanche (annexed Tenerife to Spain on April 10 ,1496). I left Cuba as many have to Madrid, Spain where I lived for 4 years. Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
