This is Bréval !!!

I like to tell you a bit on the memorable village on the off the beaten paths of my former Yvelines dept 78. There is a wonderful stories to write about thie royal region of my belle France, I am lucky to found me some pictures hidden in my cd rom vault to do this post for you and me, The village of Bréval is located in the Yvelines department 78 in the Île-de-France region of my belle France. Therefore, here is my take on this is Bréval !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The village of Bréval is located 16 km from Mantes-la-Jolie, 30 km from Dreux, 30 km from Évreux, 59 km from Versailles, and 485 km from my current home. I came here from Versailles along the streets passing by the Potager du Roi and Parc Balbi (see posts) to connect with the N12 highway dir Dreux but get off at exit/sortie on the D134 road dir Neauphle-le-Château then at roundabout bear right onto dir Plaisir onto the D912 road passing by City center Jouars-Pontchartrain then bear right onto the D191 dir Beynes/Thoiry continue thru City center Villiers-Saint-Frédéric bearing left onto the D11 road passing by City center Neauphle-le-Vieux continue same road passing by City center Longnes continue in City center Bréval bear right onto the D89 road or Rue du Hamel and the church, The town is served by several departmental roads such as the D 11 (Saint-Cyr-l’École – Bréval), which continues into the Eure department no 27 as the D 58, the RD 89 (Port-Villez – Neauphlette), the D 110 (Buchelay – Saint-Illiers-le-Bois), and the D 114 (Rosny-sur-Seine – Bréval).

I passed and briefly stop on the Church Notre Dame de l’Assomption, aka Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is located at Rue du Hamel (D89) is in stone Romanesque style, dating from the 12C, modified several times. It has a longitudinal plan with a single nave, topped by a bell tower which is itself flanked by a turret, and ending in a flat apse. The entrance is through a pointed arch doorway surmounted by a circular window. The north and south facades are punctuated by a series of pointed arch windows alternating with buttresses. The bell tower is topped with a pyramidal spire. Not much further info

The Gare de Bréval train station is on the Mantes-la-Jolie to Cherbourg line. It was opened on July 1, 1855. Although located in the Île-de-France region, it is not served by suburban trains but by Intercités and TER Normandie trains, which connect to Paris-Saint-Lazare train station or Mantes-la-Jolie train station. It is the last station in the Île-de-France region before entering Normandy.

The mairie of Bréval is an interesting building located at 3 Place du Maréchal Leclerc , Not much history on it but a pleasant architecture look that made me take a picture,

Other thing to see here me think is the remains of the feudal castle of Bréval. At the time of Duke Henri, the place was the possession of Guillaume Louvel

A bit of history I Like tell us that the Lordship of Bréval was established around its feudal castle during the 11C. It was built between 1060 and 1080. The Lordship of Bréval subsequently became the “Royal Castellany of Bréval” in 1202, under the reign of Philip Augustus. In 1379, during the Hundred Years’ War, Charles V of France recaptured Bréval from the Navarrese captain Périnnet Tranchant. Then, on October 31, 1623, King Louis XIII elevated the land of Bréval to a Marquisate. The Lords of Bréval then succeeded one another until 1790. Anne Christian de Montmorency, Count of Beaumont, Prince of Tingry, was the last Lord of Bréval. He emigrated during the French revolution. During the Siege of Paris in 1870, Bréval was occupied on October 7, 1870, by the 6th Cavalry Division of the 4th Prussian Army. On October 30, after an ambush by the Eure mobile guards against some Uhlans, the Prussians burned part of the town. Bréval did not experience a German invasion during the 1914-1918 war, as the armies were stopped at the Marne. It was on Friday, August 18, 1944, that the 3rd Army, commanded by General Patton, entered Bréval via the road from Neauphlette, which now bears his name.
