I was looking in my cd rom vault and found me an older picture that for the memories’s sake need to have in my blog for you and me, This is not your usual tourist famous destination, but worth the detour ,and it brings many memories of passing and visiting this area of my former Yvelines ! Therefore, here is my take on this is Morainvilliers-Bures !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The village of Morainvilliers-Bures is located in the Yvelines department no 78 of the Île-de-France region of my belle France, Morainvilliers borders the towns/villages of Ecquevilly, Vernouillet, Chapet, Médan, Alluets-le-Roi, Villennes-sur-Seine, and Orgeval (see posts on most). The village is crossed by the D113 (formerly the N13) and the autoroute de Normandie A13 although there are no interchanges within the village. The village is 13 km from Saint-Germain-en-Laye, 3 km from Orgeval, 25 km from Versailles, and 478 km from my current town, We initially came from Versailles along the Bd du Roi to place de la Loi bear left onto Bd Saint Antoine, same Route de Saint Germain ,same Route de Versailles,or D186 road to connect with the A13 dir Rouen, get off at exit/sortie 7 Poissy bear left onto the D113 road or Route de Quarante Sous, and then bear right onto Rue de la Vall Maria to Morainvilliers place de l’église and church,
I must have been doing some of walk warrior mode in the village and found this nice picture that made me do this post, The Church Saint-Léger traditionally dated to the second quarter of the 12C, it has actually been extensively remodeled. Before the French revolution, it was adorned with four bells; today, only one remains, dating from 1500. It bears the name Léger, after the church’s owner. The coats of arms of the Lords of Morainvilliers and Maule can be found on the vault of the Chapelle de la Virgin and in the heart of the church. In 1787, a partition wall had to be built between the two aisles of the side nave due to a failing pillar. The bell, which dates from 1547, is one of the oldest in the Yvelines. Take the opportunity to admire the church, donated in 1083 by the Count of Meulan to the Bec-Hellouin Abbey. First, the entrance portal, surmounted by a niche housing a statuette. Then the side walls, punctuated by buttresses alternating with pointed arched bays. With a square plan, the bell tower dominates the north facade of the church, being itself composed of three levels. The nave, the choir and the aisle were built in the middle of the 15C where the Chapel of the Virgin was rebuilt in 1845 and 1846.

Other things to see here are the Church of Bures, from the 19C. Château de Bures, from the 19C, rebuilt in 1817 for Félix Gonse, bearing the arms of his family who already owned the property at the end of the Ancien Régime (monarchy). Château du Val Joli, rebuilt by Gabrielle Elluini in 1882. Château de Benainvilliers, from the 19C ,and the Château des Quesnot, from the 19C. Bear in mind most of these properties are private,
A bit of history tell us that the village of Morainvilliers seems to take its name from the small streams that have their source there. Morainvilliers was originally a lordship whose castle, located not far from the church, has now disappeared. The Morainvillier (no S) family was part of the king’s entourage towards the end of the 14C. This family made a prestigious alliance with the heiress of the barons of Maule around 1396. They were also lords of Mareil-sur-Mauldre and Montainville where they affixed their coat of arms to the keystones of the parish church. They formed numerous alliances with the families of Pincerais. Before the French revolution of 1789, Morainvilliers was part of the Marquisate of Ecquevilly and the Provostship of Saint-Germain-en-Laye. In 1843, Bures and Morainvilliers formed a single commune, shared by the Orgeval stream valley and the Quarante Sous road. Bures is located 3 km from Morainvilliers, on the other side of the Quarante Sous road. In the 17C, the inhabitants of the hamlet claimed to belong to one of the two villages of Orgeval and Morainvilliers. Being halfway between the two, disadvantages persisted. By a Royal Ordinance of June 27, 1843, Bures was attached to the village of Morainvilliers, so today Morainvilliers-Bures,.
