I was looking into my cd rom vaults and found me a couple pictures that should be in my blog for you and me, These are of Plumelec, in my beautiful Morbihan dept 56 of my lovely Bretagne and in my belle France. The sights are endless in my neck of the woods and I am working on seeing them all !! health permitting. I dare go into the back woods to see the beauty of my Morbihan and see some more wonders of our world. Do see my other posts on the town in my blog. Therefore, let me tell you about the Château de Callac of Plumelec !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The château de Callac is located in the village of Callac about 9 km from City center Plumelec which it belongs,5 km from Trédion, and 42 km from my current home, The current castle was built in the 14C and then enlarged in the 15-16C. It was then remodeled in the 17C to give it its current appearance with four pavilions. The oldest part of the castle is a tower dating from the original 14C manor house. To the north, the « aile des tours » or wing towers was transformed in the 15C following the style of the manor houses of the time. This façade constitutes an ancient form of fortification, flanked by four round towers, The eastern wing, south of the 14C tower, dates overall from the 16C,

The castle belonged to the Callac family, then to the Le Forestier and Clairfontaine families by succession. In 1645, it was elevated to a barony by Louis XIV in favor of Sieur Rogier, a councilor in the Parliament of Brittany. In the 17C, Callac received the Cardinal-Duke of Richelieu, and later from 1670, it belonged to Amador du Guémadeuc, governor of Ploërmel. Callac passed through marriage to Julie-Eleonore de Marbeuf, wife of the Count of Marbeuf, governor of Corsica. It served as a refuge for the Chouans (it welcomed refractory priests and Chouan leaders such as Georges Cadoudal, who spent a brief time there ) in 1795 and as a rallying point for French paratroopers dropped during WWII. The surroundings of the castle are easily accessible and visible directly from the municipal road. The castle is open to the public and for guided tours during the Arts and Crafts Days and Heritage Days. The exterior is accessible all year round. The castle is undergoing rescue and restoration work which is still ongoing
