I found me a fantastic picture in my cd rom vault of quant old wonderful Vitré and of course, it needs to be in my blog for you and me.This is nice Vitré, in the Ille et Vilaine dept 35 of my lovely Bretagne and in my belle France, The town is one of the Arts and History designation, 3 flower’s town , and best detour de France désignations, Therefore, let me tell you more on curiosities of Vitré, part II !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I

The Hôtel du Bât or Hôtel du Bol d’Or is a private mansion at No 10 rue d’Embas. The mansion dates back to 1513. This mansion was an important stopping place on the road from Le Mans to Rennes. It is one of the few mansions made of Vitré stone dating back to before the 17C. A mark on the upstairs fireplace suggests that it was a merchant’s mansion. Inside, there is a small wooden study overhanging the entrance; a stone spiral staircase with a two-tone interplay between the slate schist and the Vitré sandstone.

The Rue d’Embas is one of the most charming streets in Vitré. Here and there, colorful half-timbered houses, slate roofs, and signs give the street a unique atmosphere.Th Among the architectural gems to discover, the Hôtel du Bol d’Or, The street opens onto Place Saint-Yves. Of the Porte or Tour d’En Bas, which allowed entry into the walled city, only the south tower remains, remodeled in the 19C. The adjoining schist wall is a remarkable reminder of the 13C city walls. The Tower of Rue d’Embas, like the surrounding walls of Vitré, dates from the 13C, from the years 1227-1234. This tower was restored on its lower part in the 16C and on its upper part in the 19C. This gate/tower was part of the walls of the city of Vitré.
