I drove by here a lot as well as walking all over, near my working areas for several years, The area having wonderful historical monuments if still some off the beaten path trail of my eternal Paris, such as the phono museum, This is my luck to find me pictures in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me. Therefore, let me tell you about the Phono Museum of Paris !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The Phono Museum is located at 53, boulevard de Rochechouart, 9th arrondissement of Paris. A small museum ,well worth a visit , me think, It’s the brainchild of a collector. We go back to Edison’s first cylinder phonograph dating from 1877. We then pass through beautiful horn gramophones, record players, and the compact disc, all surrounded by equally beautiful vintage advertising posters, vinyl record sleeves, photos, and more. We listen religiously to the sounds of the past and the anecdotes of the master of the house.

The phonograph was the first mass-produced consumer product to enter homes, before radio and electricity. As early as 1930, in René Clair’s famous film “Freedom Belongs to Us,” which served as the basis for Charlie Chaplin’s “Modern Times,” the phonograph is portrayed as the emblem of modern industrial production. Its history throughout the 20C is indeed one of phenomenal evolution. Today, the music industry is omnipresent in our lives through television, radio, download sites, records, and the broadcasting of music in most public places. In all through more than a hundred vintage machines, all in working order, the Museum of Recorded Sound evokes the various stages of technical evolution, from the first cylinder and disc devices in their most representative forms to the latest technologies. Some fifty period posters and photographs illustrate and enhance the museum. Parallels are drawn between the most important artists of yesterday and today.

An archive space currently being developed will also give the public access to nearly 50,000 record sides and 10,000 cylinders, some of which have already been digitized (5,500 record sides and 4,500 cylinders) and can be viewed on the Phonobase website. This collection of records (two-thirds 78 rpm records and one-third microgrooves) features recordings from all over the world. 2,000 documents and 2,000 photos will also be available for viewing.
