Malestroit, two “small towns of character”, the route ends in Monteneuf, where 440 stones raised in purple schist are spread over more than 10 hectares. During the flowering heather period, the evening light on the menhirs is magical. Awesome indeed, need to come and see it ok

The Center Pompidou Paris will close for four years from 2023 to 2027. Some news from France, CCCXXV February 17 2021 !!! And talking about heritage which is history and architecture my fav subjects we have the National Monuments going to give money to renovate places such as the Cité de Carcassonne, Château de Pierrefond, and the Hôtel de la Marine, renovated for 132 million euros. It should open the first half of April, if the government lifts the closure of cultural venues. Until 1789, this hotel housed the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne (or crown furniture keeps) before becoming, for more than 200 years, the seat of the Ministry of the Navy. The National Monuments Center took over management in 2015, after the departure of the ministry. The opening expected in two months concerns the heritage spaces, former 18C apartments of the intendant of the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne. This is at the Place de la Concorde, Paris. And these are just the ones that caught my eyes, there will be more building to benefit from this financial help and recognition!

In the Winter 1879-1880: when Claude Monet painted the frozen Seine. Of course, no climate change then lol!! Are you shivering from the cold? Think instead of our ancestors who endured the worst cold snap in France. -26 ° C in Paris and worse still in Vétheuil (Val-d’Oise 95 ) where the painter, a young widower, warmed his heart by painting like the damned. By the Quai Saint-Michel, on January 3, 1880. During that harsh winter, the capital experienced 29 days of frost and the Seine froze!!

The Louvre museum conservation center was installed in 2019 in Pas-de-Calais. The museum’s reserves, which, under the public establishment, were located in a flood zone, were 80% emptied of some 150,000 works stored there. The Louvre has deployed great resources such as a huge building was built in Liévin (Pas-de-Calais), for a budget of 60 million euros, a few km from Lens, where the decentralized branch of the National Museum is located . Since its inauguration in October 2019, semi-trailer shuttles have not stopped between rue de Rivoli and rue du Docteur-Piette.

Some news from France, CCCXXVI March 12 2021 !!! And of course, for the upteen time that I lost count the Eiffel Tower needs to be repainted . However, too much lead stops the painting of the Eiffel Tower. The board of directors announced last Friday the suspension of the painting project, due to dispersion of lead. Ok at least she gets a break from all that glue thingy lol! OF course ,where are the ecologists here? The last measurements date from January 5 2021,   and they are maddening. While indoors, the regulatory lead dangerousness threshold is set at 1,000 micrograms per m2 (5,000 mg / m2 in Parisian public spaces according to the regional health agency), lead concentration levels detected on the tower Eiffel “explode” , a measurement on the ground floor,(1 fl) exit from the south staircase, is 22,452 mg / m2. Another nearby is 9563 mg / m2. And on the first floor (2nd Fl US), at the level of the northeast passageway, a measurement made the counter jump to 46,333 mg / m2. More than nine times the authorized threshold! These are non-standard rates. However, is the Tour Eiffel have you smell!

Nice Paris do the Buttes-Chaumont, a timeless walk. The Buttes-Chaumont park delivers the art of gardens and the technical prowess of the 19C. An exceptional and magical space driven by Napoleon III to clean up this unhealthy district of Paris. The Parc des Buttes-Chaumont 19éme arrondissement or district of Paris offers, on 25 hectares, exceptional landscapes between Norman cliffs and Mediterranean forest. Sublime indeed to visit when possible.

A transformed avenue, renovated buildings, etc is the new face of Neuilly-sur-Seine to appeals to companies. The second phase of the redevelopment of the aisles on Avenue Charles-de-Gaulle, which will begin next month April, is accompanied by other extensive work, with major restructuring of the offices. Something to please companies, a little less for residents. Of course , my fav place de Madrid will be unrecognisable.

And time for renovation indeed. The Canal Saint-Martin is (finally) getting a facelift of yesteryear: historical and colorimetric studies have made it possible to find the original color of Napoleon Bonaparte’s footbridges, light gray. On either side of the walkways, workers will also restore two candelabras to their original locations and add lighting to the underside of the arches.   Built during the second half of the 19C, thousands of walkers use them every day. You may have already seen workers start work on the oldest of all, passerelle des Douanes or Customs Bridge (assembled in 1860). The operation will continue on that of Bichat and that of La Grange-aux-Belles. Renovation work will also be carried out to reinforce the stability of the structure and the ground with its original stones; the same as those of the Sacré-Coeur, by the way. Work is expected to continue until July 2021. Great!

Some news from France, CCCXXVII March 21 2021 !!! The Paris Observatory, a citadel of science with its head in the stars. This historic landmark saw the discovery of Neptune or the invention of the speaking clock. Today, it hosts researchers participating in major astronomical projects and space missions. Built in 1847 on the roof of the Paris Observatory, the Arago dome houses a 9-meter-long telescope, which was once used to study the stars. And we need it open to see it again !

The restoration of the Bayeux tapestry created snags in Franco-British diplomacy. More damaged than it was thought, medieval embroidery will be extensively restored from 2024, calling into question its loan across the Channel. For nearly five months, it has been lying in the dark, isolated from the fury of the
world behind its three-centimeter-thick armored glass. Like all museums in France, the one that hosts the Bayeux tapestry in Calvados has not opened since October 30 2020, closed by the government to
stem the epidemic due to the covid virus. Embroidered nearly a thousand years ago to celebrate William
the Conqueror’s victorious landing in England in 1066, the old linen lady is in pain and in need of emergency care. Exposed vertically since its installation in 1983 in a building built for it, in the heart of the capital of Bessin, the Bayeux tapestry has cracks, despite all the precautions taken to ensure its conservation. A total of 24,204 stains, 16,445 folds and 9,646 gaps in the fabric or embroidery were identified. More worryingly, 30 unstabilized tears were observed. Such a statement had never been
made on the embroidered face, It was assure by the regional directorate of cultural affairs (DRAC) of Normandy.

Some news from France, CCCXXVIII March 30 2021 !!! And another sad news of the Fatca/Fincen US regulations since Obama 2010. The poor souls of “Accidental Americans”(French born in USA while their parents stay and came back without even speaking English!) Well these French people who could find themselves without a bank account. BNP-Paribas (bank) has sent a letter to its Franco-American clients to inform them of the impending closure of their account. Blame it on the lack of their US tax identification number, which they do not have … since they have never lived in the United States. No W9 Uncle Sam is after you and since BNP Paribas have banks in USA (California) they need to follow the letter of the law.

The restored Hôtel de la Marine will open to the public for the first time since the French revolution! The famous monument on Place de la Concorde, occupied for more than two centuries by the Naval Staff, is awaiting the lifting of sanitary measures to open its magnificently restored 18C apartments and 19C ceremonial salons. The 19C ceremonial salons and the magnificently restored 18C apartments await only their audience. And the French government ok

Officially, it will now be necessary to speak of the “public establishment of the Orsay museum and of the Orangerie-Valéry Giscard d´Estaing museum”. But in fact, neither the Musée d’Orsay nor the Musée de l’Orangerie has changed its name unofficially! I guess folks will continue to call them as old but officially they are not anymore.

And we have followed all our boys lives as the mom Martine first taught them French using these books ! A new one is soon out ,«Astérix et le Griffon » ,the 39th volume will be released on October 21 2021. While very little has been revealed about the plot of these new adventures, we can guess from the title that our two friends will be looking for the Griffin, a legendary creature that is half eagle and half lion. This will be the very first volume of Asterix and Obelix published after the death of Albert Uderzo, who died in March 2020. “Albert trusted us to respect the values of the characters he created with René Goscinny, we will continue in his absence the mission he has entrusted to us with this new album, which we hope will delight readers” explained Jean-Yves Ferri and Didier Conrad , the new writers.

Some news from France, CCCXXIX April 19 2021 !!! The Pont des Arts, to embrace Paris. The Pont des Arts remains, for all lovers of Paris, and of the left bank in particular, the obligatory point of passage to span the Seine. Whatever the color of the sky, spectacle and poetry are always there. The wooden footbridge, built under Napoleon Bonaparte, freed from its padlocks (yeah!!), now welcomes performers as well as strollers, always quick to immortalize the moment. And a wonderful moment it is!!

I have always been fascinated by this building, whose architecture I find grandiose and balanced. I find it hard to imagine the thousands of people running around the platforms of this old train station at the turn of the century! You might think at first that the place is cold, but I feel good there. I have to tell you, I even go there sometimes, just for a walk! And of course, each time I visit the museum, I take the opportunity to go up to the terrace, which offers a breathtaking view of Paris. Yes indeed magical Musée d’Orsay Museum, 1, rue de la Légion d’honneur 7éme

The Musée de la toile de Jouy is set to move in several years, an opportunity to set up partnerships with the universities in the area. It is in Jouy-en-Josas (Yvelines 78) , future Cité du textile or fabric city. Soon, it will be possible to live the canvas as it did then, and begin the digitization of the 10,000 patterns produced by Oberkampf at the end of the 18C! A nice off the beaten path trip in my beloved Yvelines 78.

I offer my sites to have a breathtaking view of Paris and gain height on the panoramic terraces and discover Greater Paris at the same time! All within 10 km. As the roofs and terraces of the Pompidou Center, the Orsay Museum, the Arab World Institute or the Arc de Triomphe are closed for the moment, I have chosen some others; some been once and the first one several times! Views for the best panoramic spots in Paris for you. First, the Mont-Valérien is itself a magnificent place full of history. The terrace allows you to observe Paris, the Bois de Boulogne and the towers of La Défense, without vis-à-vis. Located in Hauts-de-Seine dept 92, you can get there by train from Saint Lazare station towards Suresnes, Mont-Valérien stop, lines L and U.

The wonderful Parc de Saint-Cloud (Hauts-de-Seine dept 92). It must be said that this park really
offers a historical and natural journey that is worth the detour. The 460-hectare space is filled with small English-style parks, sculptures and fountains to stroll around in peace. The park also offers a panoramic view of Greater Paris. The most impressive for us is the one that is visible from the Lantern terrace or from the Belvédère, with a highest point at 160 meters altitude. Opt for the entrance to the park through the Breteuil pavilion for direct access to the Lanterne terrace. Access: Sèvres-Rive-Gauche train station, line N.

Some news from France, CCCXXX April 27 2021 !!! The oldest bridge in Paris has just started the last phase of its restoration. Seven months of work will be necessary to renovate the Place du Pont-Neuf, on which stands the equestrian statue of Henri IV. Built between 1578 and 1607, the Pont-Neuf had already been the subject of restoration work. An eighteen-year project, completed in 2007, notably allowed the renovation of each of the twelve arches of this 238-meter-long bridge. This new restoration will also be accompanied by the installation of stained glass windows (as for the Pont des Arts and the Pont de l’Archevêché) in order to limit the installation of padlocks which distort and endanger the bridge (good deal!). Renovated at the factory, the guardrails will be slightly modified to accommodate the glass panels, while retaining their original appearance. The seven-month project will also be an opportunity to restore the retaining walls of the Place du Pont-Neuf as well as some masks ornament , cleaned and renovated.

Parc Monceau, with its hundred-year-old trees, its romantic works , and a crazy charm. This mythical and very frequented park in the 8éme arrondissement of Paris, one of the most beautiful in the city with its remarkable trees and romantic sculptures, has long been the garden of a private residence. This antique-style colonnade, originally intended to adorn the tomb of Henri II which remained unfinished, has become the emblematic Naumachie, named after the ancient naval jousts, which adorns the basin of Parc Monceau. A must to see!

The European Union ETIAS comes from “European Travel Information and Authorization System”. It is a fully electronic system that tracks visitors from countries that do not need a visa to enter the Schengen area. In a way, it resembles the United States Electronic Travel Authorization System (ESTA), which serves a similar purpose. The main reason that led to the approval of the ETIAS authorization is safety. With the increased risk of travelers all over the world, the EU wants to ensure the safety of travel in its countries. The ETIAS system will significantly reduce security concerns through its information and data collection systems. What this means is that the ETIAS system will detect whether a person is a threat to the security of the Schengen countries. This will therefore lead to denying the person entry and preventing the threat from being present within the borders of the EU. It will just deal with the problem before it can even exist. However, in addition to making travel safer, the ETIAS authorization will also help EU countries and all travelers in the following ways: Reduced processing and application times; Improving border management in EU countries; Assistance in the detection and reduction of crime and terrorism; By preventing migrations contrary to the regulations, By strengthening the EU visa liberalization policy. Overall, the ETIAS authorization will make travel within the EU less painful and safer. Some of the countries that will need an ESTIAS are  Australia, Canada, Brazil, Japan,  Mexico, New Zealand, and the United States of America. There are many others see the list on the webpage included on this post. You can pay the charges by debit or credit card. Immediately after payment is completed, the ETIAS authorization will begin to be processed. If approved, the ETIAS application can be valid for 3 years or until your passport expires. If it isn’t, however, you’ll get a deny message. In the rejection message, you will have a written reason why the ETIAS request was refused. You can appeal this decision or depending on the reason for the denial, you can adjust your request and try again. To use the ETIAS authorization correctly, you must first go through the first country indicated in your application. For example, if you intended to go through Germany, Belgium and Austria, and you indicated in your request that the first country you will visit is Germany, you must go through Germany before visiting Belgium and Austria. After entering the first country, you can visit any other country in the Schengen zone for 90 days. If you have a Schengen visa, you will not need an ETIAS authorization. You can present your visa to the border authorities when entering the Schengen zone countries. When your visa expires, you can apply for ETIAS authorization if you are eligible.

Beautiful Anglo-Norman half-timbered house, located in the center of Etretat, the Clos Lupin nestles its two floors in the heart of a pretty garden. Inside, a fun museum around the character, who himself guides the visitor through twelve rooms filled with his “memories”: capes and top hats, objects from the Roaring Twenties, movie posters… Reality has even joins the fiction: certain visitors keen on esotericism, convinced that Maurice Leblanc has hidden traces there allowing to find the famous treasure of the Abbé Saunière, come to look for them at Clos Lupin. Some news from France, CCCXXXV May 29 2021 !!! The Domaine de Trévarez with its multicolored groves and a pink castle. For those visiting the Trévarez estate, in central Finistère dept 29 of my lovely Bretagne, a change of scenery is guaranteed. All in brick, the building was built between 1893 and 1907 by James Marie Antoine Monjaret de Kerjégu, French diplomat. In 1944, the building then went into slow decline. Abandoned, the domain bought by the General Council of Finistère was gradually brought back to life. Today, its park combines multiple atmospheres, between its camellias – to be seen between November and March , its hundred-year-old rhododendrons and its azaleas  from April to May, followed by the heads of hydrangeas until October. Bring good shoes: the area covers 85 hectares! Domaine de Trévarez, Route de Laz, Saint-Goazec (see post)

The Château de Saint-Jean de Beauregard in Essonne dept 91 of the Ïle de France region, in the Salmouille valley, the castle of Saint-Jean-de Beauregard blossoms between forest and fields. Still inhabited, this 17C chateau has the particularity of presenting a French-style vegetable walled garden of two hectares. Composed of four squares themselves subdivided into four squares, it mixes squares of vegetables and flowers and is decorated in its center with a round basin which recalls the symbolic importance of water in ancient gardens. The outskirts are bordered by fruit trees (old-fashioned trellises, palmettes, cords), greenhouses. And garden enthusiasts can also take advantage of the two Fêtes des Plantes (May 28-30, 2021 and September 24-26, 2021), on the theme of long-flowering plants to discover rare or forgotten productions such as square peas and apples.of earth horn of gatte or vitelotte! Wonderful Château de Saint Jean de Beauregard, rue du Château, Saint-Jean-de-Beauregard.

The Château de Marqueyssac like an air of Italy, a stone’s throw from Sarlat, in the heart of Périgord. A surprising atmosphere awaits you on the heights: the gardens of the estate of the Château de Marqueyssac. Their particularity: thousands of hand-pruned, hundred-year-old box trees, all round or airy! the 22-hectare park is now one of the jewels from the Dordogne valley. Stunning views over the Dordogne valley and the villages, delicate or delicate curves, small winding alleys, labyrinth, 6 km of walk punctuated by the cries of peacocks await you! Hanging Gardens of Marqueyssac in Vézac.

The beautiful Château de Villandry. It’s an open-air, French-style decor. Built for Jean le Breton, the Minister of Finance of king François 1er, the Renaissance castle of Villandry owes a proud candle to a couple of American-Spanish enthusiasts, Joachim Carvallo and his wife Ann Coleman, extremely wealthy daughter of a giant in the steel industry. At the start of the 20C, they razed the old English garden and began to reorganize it into different gardens, in the Renaissance spirit. We are in 1906. Today, it is these fabulous gardens that make the visit a success. Divided into four parts, they reflect the aesthetic principle of Joachim Carvallo. Other visual pleasures: the labyrinth, the gardens of the Herbs, Water and Ornament  divided into green rooms dedicated to love. So many wonders to admire by taking the height and climbing on the belvedere or the windows of the castle. The view is breathtaking. Château de Villandry, 3 rue Principale in Villandry
