In 2023, Christmas markets, nativity scenes, concerts and a multitude of festivities offer a wide choice of entertainment for the whole family in Paris. From the Champs-Élysées to the facades of department stores via the squares and streets of the city… discover the most beautiful Christmas illuminations in Paris. Luminous arches, multicolored bulbs, incandescent flames and sparkling projections sumptuously adorn the French capital. From November to early January,2024 the Christmas illuminations on Avenue des Champs-Elysées whose launch is sponsored each year by a celebrity, Also, by Avenue Montaigne, Place Vendôme, in the Montmartre district, at Bercy Village and in many other sites, give Paris a more captivating charm than ever! The stores also switch to winter time and adorn themselves with their most beautiful colors. The festive decorations on the facades of Parisian department stores are attractions in their own right!
These are my favorites over the years amongst many to choose from :
The Christmas Illuminations on the Avenue des Champs—Élysées, From November 19, 2023 to January 7, 2024 From 17h to midnight. All night on December 24 and 31. At the Place Vendôme and surroundings until the beginning of January 2024, Also, at the Westfield Forum des Halles from November 9, 2023 to January 10, 2024
An unmissable festive event during the end of year celebrations in Paris. The Chrismas markets take over the four corners of the city, to the delight of visitors, walkers and locals! The Magic of Christmas at the Tuileries, to January 7, 2024 , The Christmas Village on the parvis of La Défense up to December 27, 2023, The Notre Dame Christmas market , this year more sentimental than ever from December 8 to 25, 2023 at the Square René Viviani and 2 rue du Fouarre, The Christmas market at Place Saint Michel to January 3, 2024, and the Christmas Village at the Hôtel de Ville from December 14, 2023 to January 6, 2024, Another perhaps off the beaten path but sentimental to me is the Alsatian Christmas market in the Gare de l’Est by Rue du 8 Mai 1945, to Sunday December 17th, 2023
To celebrate Christmas in the purest tradition, don’t hesitate to open the doors of Parisian churches. Each church allows its faithful to gather there and participate in various vigils and masses. Masses are organized there on December 24 and 25 with prestigious celebrations, supported by exceptional choirs and concerts.
My best are at the Basilica of the Sacré-Coeur de Montmartre , at the Madeleine Church ,at the Saint-Eustache Church, at the Saint-Augustin Church ,at the Saint-Sulpice Church, at the Saint-Germain l’Auxerrois Church ,and at the Church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
There is a non-exhaustive selection of Christmas nativity scenes such as the Christmas crib at the Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur in Montmartre: visible during basilica hours, every day from 6h30 to 22h45 ! The Christmas nativity scene at the Madeleine Church: Provençal nativity scene visible every day from 9h30 to 19h Christmas nativity scene at Saint-Eustache Church: traditional nativity scene. The Christmas nativity scene at Saint-Germain-des-Prés Church: presentation of the nativity scene to February 2, 2024, The Christmas crib at the Saint Germain L’Auxerrois Church, visible until January 2024
And we cannot leave out the faithful to tradition, the facades of Parisian department stores are adorned from November with their most beautiful festive decorations. Again, my favorite are the Galeries Lafayette: Christmas of my Dreams to December 31, 2023. Le Printemps Haussmann: A paper Christmas for wishes granted to January 1, 2024, BHV Marais: A Christmas in the forest From November 8, 2023 , La Samaritaine: A gourmet Christmas to January 9, 2024 , and Le Bon Marché: Christmas in all its splendor From November 10, 2023,
The Christmas spirit blows through Aéroville. A stone’s throw from Charles-De-Gaulle airport, the shopping center is transformed, from December 2, into a real tale for young and old. A couple more to the reach of many and very good ones are :
Tarlant – Saignée des Tempêtes 2015 ,Under an exquisite color evoking the breast of a robin, delicate oxidative notes, Damask rose and red fruits, a fine, airy bubble, which loosens in the mouth with delicious notes of almond paste, quince, sap, lots of depth and complexity, spices, and a very long, pure, mystical finish! Webpage : https://www.tarlant.com/
Joseph Perrier – La Côte à bras 2014 , A pure, precise nose, with aromas of lily of the valley, white lilac, then vanilla sugar, moving from freshness to more indulgence, with notes of white fruits on the palate, an acidity that refreshes overall, a juicy, slightly spicy side, which holds your hand while caressing your palate, towards a long, energizing and tasty finish. And a wonderful history, champagne, and beautiful monuments of my belle France, Faithful to the family reputation for excellence, Barons de Rothschild champagne is associated with the Comédie-Française and the Château de Versailles. Since 2012, Barons de Rothschild has been the exclusive champagne of the Comédie-Française Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, (met her in Pauillac!!) mother of Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, CEO of Baron Philippe de Rothschild S.A. since 2018, was an actress. She began her career at Le Français in 1958. She was a resident there for five years, meeting her husband, Jacques Sereys (who passed away on January 2, 2023, at age 94), 431st member of the Comédie-Française, which he joined in 1955. They therefore had very strong links with this theater. The Rothschild family donated many objects and pieces of furniture to Versailles and still wines often accompany events organized within the castle. But, unlike the Comédie-Française, there is a more commercial aspect to this partnership with Versailles. Since 2016, their wines are the attention as part of the VIP tours of the castle and gardens but also the costume ball organized every end of July and, which is held exclusively with Barons de Rothschild champagne.Indeed, Webpage : https://www.bpdr.com/en
