In my new life as retiree my blog is my biggest entertainement and before anything else, I like to thank everyone of my readers and followers to stay with me over the years since November 26 2010 !!! Thank you !!! Open since June, the Le Five Paris is the only place in inner Paris, it is a prestigious address with 12 fields football/soccer , that you can even video the games at  32, rue Moussorgski (75018) More  BCBG, the PO cultural association near the church of  Saint-Sulpice is an institution on the rive gauche. Some news from France LXXXIIII October 10, 2012

Paris is having a great American painter’s expo at the Grand Palais itself ! Edward Hopper ,from now to January 28  2013. Schedules from Wednesday to Saturday from 10H to 22H and Sundays , Mondays from 10H to 20H, closed Tuesdays at the Grand Palais.

And good news for the Bretons, the Musée Grévin, that celebrates its 130 years old this year has a new wax star in Breton Nolwenn Leroy. Its a winning event for this woman of 30, her last album of Breton songs sold over 800000 albums coming second in sales in 2011 in France. Nolwenn is getting ready for another album which the going out is schedule for Christmas. The  79e édition of the Fêtes des Vendages de Montmartre ,this year from October 10-14 in Montmartre on the theme of gourmandise.  The main points will be Thursday the 10th with the chocolate as the guest of honor, with animations and the participation of pâtissiers-chocolatiers from the district.  Friday 11th Oct. it is the day of cheeses and the market of the chapelle as well as  the five beers of the Goutte d’Or with his founder  Thierry Roche (28-30, rue de la Goutte d’Or). Saturday the grand march with  1600 strong march from 15h to 18h, from the Jules Joffrin to gym  Ronsard.

Until october 14 2012 the salon mondial de l’automobile or the world auto show at Paris, the way to see with class the best cars of now and the future.  At the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles,for the car lover in me ,another one will missed from being now away from the area ,darn it!

Some news from France LXXXVII Nov 7 2012

The Vélib bikes is in for sure with 23 801 bikes per day in 1 742 stations, however, complaints are falling in as there is a shortages of 5500 bikes as promised and the verification system is lacking so now the city will put an audit to find out.  No panic this is just to have some quality measurements in place to monitor quality of service.

Great even at Domaine de Chantilly (castle)  7, rue du Connétable, 60500 Chantilly.  Last until January 7 2013. Entitled «Delacroix et l’aube de l’orientalisme»,shows the affection of the Duke d’Amale for the Oriental culture , 22 paintings and designs retracing the history of orientalism, the expedition of Napoleon Bonaparte, the beginning of Romanticism, showcasing the artists  and travelers of the military oriental world.

Let’s start with Modern Arts at the city of Paris Musée d’Art Moderne, at the expo the Art and war or arts et guerre, running thru February 13 2013. You go visit the only library in Paris dedicated to travel books,at  bibliothèque du Trocadéro Germaine-Tillon  at 6, rue du Commandant-Schloesing, old Bibliothéque du Trocadero   the Musée du vin at 5, square Charles-Dickens, with a collection of wine objects and wine tastings,  Pavillon de l’Eau at 77, avenue de Versailles, to see a permanent expo on water in the city and know the secret of its floating navy as well as temp expos. You can cap it with the beautiful glass displays at Musée Baccarat  at 11, place des États-Unis, retracing the history of glass with a rich collection and historical documents, Give it a artful visit to the Maison de Balzac at  47, rue Raynouard, right in the heart of a pretty garden where we can admire now the expo on the  Grisettes, along collections of manuscripts and objects belonging to the writer And finally, the Cité de l’Architecture at  1, place du Trocadéro,where you have nice workshop for children and the wonderful architecture of Pairs thru its history. This better known as Chaillot

Good and bad news, the renovations at Chateau de Versailles will be delayed and the Galerie des glace will be open,  The renovation of the Grands  Appartements will be delayed . However ,more news the pavillon Dufour, that now houses the administration of the palace and areas private of the palace will be entirely renovated; this to offer a better entrance to visitors modeled after the Pyramide of the Louvres, Paris. The administration will then be move to the Grand Comun at ave de l’independance Americain that will be finish soon and already renovated.

And yes finally , the Paris CDG airport will house a museum of  250 m2 with expositions renewing every 6 months. This will be by T2E on the new satellite wing at S4.  It will take turn with work from all the Paris museum, and word has it the first one display will be from the Musée Rodin.  It should have been finished by December but now it has been delayed into the new year.

The musée Dapper is showing about the Ashanti people of Ghana until July 7 2013; entitled Design en Afrique, the museum is located at 35bis rue Paul Valéry. The jardin d’acclimatation one of my all time favorites is getting a face lift  , getting a change over to integrate the building thought out by Frank Gehry  for the Fondation Louis Vuitton. It will have free Wi Fi, free admission every Fridays from Jan 2013, an area of 3,5 kms for jogging, and next spring it will open to public a fifth of its area so about 4 hectares of terrain. The park is now managed by LVMH ,and they will plant as much as 90 trees and landscaping, fountains and playareas for free.

A street configuration coming back to Paris after 1951. From pl de la République to  Opéra the circulation will be both ways yeaaaaah!!! it will have the  Grands Boulevards with its traffic patterns as it was before 1951 and it begins tomorrow. It will have a cyclable lane as well for the vélos. Wonderful news for the car lovers like me….

The tallest Christmas tree in Europe, all 35 meters of it, is up at the Pl de la Concorde, Paris ,where else ho ho ho !!! Full season at the Opéra of the Chateau de Versailles,sublime, an event not to missed when in the area, like I said and repeat, Versailles its a lot more than a castle.

Orly airport that many folks call Paris, but actually is in the city of Orly in dept 94 Val de Marne, is going thru a metamorphosis of many changes to improve it to real international standards.  The idea of renovations from now to 2018 is to eventually make just one terminal (now there are two with four hallways). The two terminals call Sud(south) and Ouest(west), will have a welcome hall increase to 80 000 m2, or the equivalent of 160 football fields ! I just went by there and its awesome airy more space ,nicer stores and restos quicker service, grand ,its Paris. You can connect between terminals for free every 4-8 minutes at Orly Ouest porte A niveau level departure and Orly Sud porte or gate K free airport of paris buses from Terminal Ouest Gate D arrival levels, and Orly Sud gate G

Due to construction renovations at the Eiffel tower, there is no more the 58 restaurant, so they have created a temp Lounge Eiffel place, that is very nice too New restaurant area in first floor of the tower, 58 meters up from bottom . This is in time to renovate the restaurant 58, it will open a Lounge Eiffel, it will open December 22nd and will be there until next May.Those that come to eat here will have a reduce ticket to go up the tower and a special counter to serve your tickets right inside the lounge

We are getting ready for a big celebration next year, the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris will celebrate its 850th birthday lol!!! Amazing, there will be lots of celebrations to mark this event,so if planning to see it next year plan well ahead and be prepare for crowds, but again, it will be all worth it. Do it.

Some news from France LXXXXIII December 20, 2012

The Château de Versailles open to folks working for the French red cross,(croix rouge) a special day for them on their hard work. the ceremony was done in the Galerie des Batailles or battle room with a performance from the theater troopers. This was made possible by the Fondation of the Française de Jeux or lottery organism in France. Very nice gesture,and worth mentioning.

Well 16 new speed radars are on in Paris, for speed ticketing and can be expensive at much as losing your license… the majority are red light radars or 11 of the 16, and can cost you 135€ plus four  points off your license (max of 12 points).

 The Cité des Civilisations du Vin of Bordeaux. The project will begin construction by the first trimester of 2013 for a final opening in 2015.  A project to show off the magic of wine, mythological, mythical, sacre, from Egyptians, Greek,and Romans rites, and the vinyards and wine present  in the old testament and as a symbol of the Catholic lithurgy!!!  It will have a space of  14 000 m2, and a permanent exhibition area of  4 250 m2 ,and  750 m2 dedicated to temporary exhibitions

Public transport in Paris will be free from Dec 31 5Pm to Jan 1 2013 12pm midday. Also, increase security during the Christmas to New Year season in Paris and Versailles. Until Jan 15 2013 there will be  4700 police and gendarmes on the roads of Paris, with the tourist sites especially cover for your safety such as Opéra, Grands Boulevards, Champs-Elysées, Trocadéro, Montmartre, Saint-Germain etc.
