Curiosities of Lanvaudan !

And I continue my road warrior rides into my beautiful Morbihan; this is glorious! I have other posts on Lanvaudan but this is a repeat visit with new pictures.  Lanvaudan is located in my beautiful Morbihan department 56 , in my lovely region of Bretagne. The town is best known for its old rural habitat which has been largely preserved with its low freestone houses and thatched roofs.  There is no city / town hall as the town is less than 1K folks, the office locally is at 1, Place de la Mairie. Lanvaudan takes its name from its patron Saint Maudez or Maudan; it is literally Maudan territory.

The Calvary of the Lanvaudan cemetery is located on the place de l’église or church square in Lanvaudan. This is the cross of the old cemetery of the parish church of Lanvaudan, and it dates from the 17C, and bears the date of 1647, This Calvary rests on a wide flared base, supporting three pedestals. The central plinth carries a large stone shaft, surmounted by Christ on the cross accompanied by royal crowns. On either side, the other two pedestals bear one a statue of the Virgin, the other a statue of Saint John.

There is a well (puit) with sculpted uprights, and the well and the Lion’s niche located right against a house across from the St Maudez Church, It is of granite doghouse from 1701, surmounted by a curly heraldic animal, a lion whose hindquarters disappear into the front wall. A cylindrical coping well with granite supports and winch cover, dated 1803.
