I have written on it before, but was not able to go in even if passed by here often on my way to my former job. I was on my local road warrior tour today and lucky to found it open at last. I feels it deserve more so here is my new post and pictures on the Church Saint Pierre aux Liens of Plescop.
Plescop is surrounded by the towns of Grand-Champ, Meucon, Saint-Avé, Vannes, Ploeren, Pluneret and Plumergat. It is only 6 km from Vannes, and 23 km from my house. In my way on the D779 and D135 roads! Plescop is an old primitive parish. It is reasonable to think that the territory of Plescop belonged directly from Gallo-Roman times to the bishop of Vannes.
The Church Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens parish church has the oldest parts in the apse and south wall of the nave dating back to the 16C. The rest of the church seems to date from the 18C, with the exception of the sacristy, built in the 19C. I have plenty of history and description on the previous post so will be brief here with the opportunity to show you and me the inside of it.
The Church Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens is basically 15-16C that has been altered many times and has no architectural character. There is a small stone font dated 1629. The three altarpieces, in stone and wood, date from the end of the 17C. The altarpiece of the high altar is decorated with a painting representing the Coronation of the Virgin: on either side of the altarpiece are the statues of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, and the whole is surmounted by a Virgin at the Child. The northern altarpiece is surmounted by a Virgin. The southern altarpiece is surmounted by a woman showing the sky to her son. The Virgin of Mercy, in polychrome stone and leaning against the wall of the southern chapel, dates from the 16C. The painting entitled “Vision of Saint Francis of Assisi”, work of Vincent Lhermitais, dates from 1768. Another canvas, located in the north transept, represents the “Descent from the Cross and the Assumption of the Virgin”. In the cemetery there was once a 17C ossuary near which we saw a curious statuette of a 15C monk. The parish church, dedicated to Saint Pierre-ès-liens , has the shape of a Latin cross. The windows are ogival. The side altars are dedicated to the Rosary, Saint Francis of Assisi and Sainte Anne.
