I ,again, found me pics in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me, This is of a dear town just south of me wonderful coastal town just 30 minutes from my house,Let me tell you again on the Megaliths of Locmariaquer. This is Locmariaquer in my beautiful Morbihan , and lovely region of Bretagne, and in my belle France. Therefore, here is my take on the Grand menhir brisé d’Er Grah of Locmariaquer !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I
These are stones really that it seems nobody has determine where they come from or how they were done or what purposes! There are a lot of hypothèses but not a real conclusion accepted by all responsible organisms. I will just tell you a bit on them borrowed from their official sites. The town of Locmariaquer is located at the western mouth of the Gulf of Morbihan and has many beaches overlooking the Bay of Quiberon, western part of Mor Braz which opens access to the Atlantic Ocean. All worth the detour me think.
A fantastic wonderful site to visit are the Maison des Megaliths in Locmariaquer, the big three are here!!! The town is another major site for them. There is a remarkable concentration of megaliths ,and considered one of the most complete site. The large, shattered Grand Menhir d’Er Grah, done 2000 years before those of Carnac , currently broken into four pieces. The impressive dimensions of this menhir still divide specialists as to the techniques used for its transport and implementation, but the work done by the Neolithic remains remarkable.

The name Grand Menhir Brisé d’Er Grah only appeared at the end of the 19C, under the pen of archaeologists, because before and locally the menhir is called Men Ar Hroëc’h, that is to say “stone of the fairy “or more exactly” stone of the old woman “in Breton. The menhir now lies broken on the ground in four fragments. The whole corresponds to a fusiform block of 21 meters long, the largest menhir in Europe, the weight of which is estimated between 300 tonnes and 330 tonnes, The menhir consists of a block of orthogneiss, the block was hammed up over its entire surface, with quartz strikers, to create regular homogeneous faces and the block stops in its lower part was made perfectly straight its elongated shape is of natural origin. The block was extracted from an outcrop: two concave depressions visible on the block indicate that it was beforehand to its extraction exposed in the horizontal position, during which it underwent natural erosion The foundation pit of the menhir was found. It was damaged in the Gallo-Roman era but the remaining part made it possible to understand their arrangement: the edges of the pit were consolidated by low walls made up of bunk blocks and the bottom of the pit was covered with the same type of blocks while taking into account the beveled morphology of the lower end of the menhir. The base of the menhir was wedged with a mixture of small granite blocks and sea sediments. The menhir was buried in this setting pit on a maximum of 1.50 meters in height and its stability therefore rested mainly on its own weight, The menhir contains on the upper face a decor carved in relief now largely flattened by erosion , representing a butt and a second interpreted motif, traditionally as the so-called “ax-carrue” pattern, and more recently as a representation of a cetacean (whale),
