Why not head for a park in Paris, and even better right in the middle of the city. The beautiful city has plenty of parks and places of wonders , and I like to tell you about a park not frequently visit by yours truly but worth the detour. I walked on most of these woods on one or two occasions. I found me a couple pics in my cd rom vault that made me do this post for you and me. The Parc des Buttes-Chaumont is located in the 19éme arrondissement of Paris. It is bordered by four main thoroughfares: Rue Manin, Rue de Crimée, Rue Botzaris, and Avenue Simon Bolivar. The nearest metro stations are Buttes-Chaumont and Botzaris on line 7bis, Laumière line 5 and Bolivar line 7bis. The park has six main entrances: the main gate at the corner of Rue Botzaris and Rue Simon Bolivar; the Secrétan gate: on Rue Manin, an extension of Avenue Secrétan; the Armand-Carrel gate: on Place Roger-Madec, in front of the 19éme arrondissement City/town hall; Crimea Gate: at the corner of Rue Manin and Rue de Crimée; La Villette Gate: on Rue Botzaris; Fessart Gate: on Rue Botzaris, an extension of Rue Fessart. In addition to these main entrances, the park has nine secondary entrances. Fourteen paths are located within the park. Two Guignol puppet theaters are also present: the Anatole Guignol Theater and the Guignol de Paris. The park contains only a few statues: the Bust of Clovis Hugues; L’Égalitaire and Pan, by Fanis Sakellariou. 
The Parc des Buttes-Chaumont is the steepest and largest of the City of Paris’s gardens. It was inaugurated on April 1, 1867, for the Paris Universal Exposition. It is a masterpiece of landscape design under Napoleon III. Spanning 25 hectares, the park is an ode to France and its landscapes, from the cliffs of Étretat to alpine meadows and meticulously recreated Mediterranean groves. A grotto is located at the entrance to an underground quarry. For technical reasons, the water supplying the grotto’s large waterfall may be shut off, particularly from April to September, for watering the park. A rocky island rises in the middle of the lake, in the center of the park. It reveals the romantic Temple of the Sibyl, which occupies the exact site of the former open-pit quarry. A replica of the Temple of Tivoli, it features eight columns and a base made of Jura stone. Access is via a suspended footbridge on one side and a stone bridge on the other. The park is home to a variety of exotic and native trees, clinging to the hillsides, sometimes along a path, sometimes across a steeply sloping lawn.
A bit of history I like tell us that since antiquity, the Parisian subsoil has been exploited for its gypsum quarries, which gave the capital its nickname “Lutetia the White.” The Romans had discovered that it transformed into plaster once heated to a temperature of 120°C (248F). The excavation of the quarries on the Buttes Chaumont began after the French revolution, considerably altering its appearance. In the 19C, the precious material was shipped as far as the United States, which earned the neighborhood its name “Quartier Amérique” (America Quarter). The quarry rose to a height of 45 meters and was divided into three superimposed galleries, each approximately 15 meters high. During the Second Empire, with the quarries closed, Napoleon III decided to transform the desolate hill into a garden. The State acquired the land in 1863, and the first shovelfuls of earth were turned in 1864.
