We go around a lot here by car and took a road warrior tour of his small quant new town of Pont-Péan as curious about its mining history. This post due to finding me a picture in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me, Therefore, this is my take on this is Pont-Péan !! Hope you enjoy the post as I

The new town of Pont-Péan created in 1986 is located in the Ille-et-Vilaine department no 35, in my lovely region of Bretagne and in my belle France. The main road here is the N137 and D837 that takes you to St Malo and Rennes, The new town is 16 km from Rennes, 84 km from Saint Malo, and 130 km from my current home, We came here on my road warrior trails from Rennes by the stadium get on the rocade beltway N136 to exit/sortie 6a porte de Nantes or Route des Estuaires or N137 highway to exit/sortie Pont-Péan connecting with the D36 road or Route de la Croix continue to Pont-Péan on Rue de la Rivaudiére then bear right on Rue de la Mine then bear left onto Allée de la Clôture and the mine admin building,

A silver-bearing lead mine was operated at Pont-Péan from 1730 to 1797 and from 1844 to 1904. Between 1730 and 1904, 155,000 tons of lead, 30,000 tons of zinc and 232 tons of silver were extracted from the site. The sudden closure of the mine in 1904 led to the immediate dismissal of the thousand workers. In the middle of the 18C, after major hydraulic works and technological feats, the machines of Pont-Péan were shown as an example in the Encyclopedia of Diderot and d’Alembert. The French revolution brought an end to this first major industrial period. In 1897, four-fifths of the lead produced in France came from Pont-Péan. Among the traces of the mine that have not yet been erased, the most visible is the imposing office building (see pic). Built in the early 1890s, it has gradually become one of the emblematic buildings of Brittany’s mining past. Work began in 2024 to transform the administrative building into a space for cultural activities.

A bit of history tell us that the town was created by prefectoral decree dated July 4, 1985, effective January 1, 1986, from the territory of Saint-Erblon. The first prehistoric peoples had erected two tumuli and a menhir there. From this period, only the trace of a tumulus remains, transformed into a feudal motte during the 9C. During the French revolution, numerous encounters between the Chouans (fought against the revolution) ,and the Republicans took place on the Tellé heath. A violent battle occurred at Pont-Péan on November 19, 1799, resulting in several casualties, including the leader of the Royalists from Laillé.

Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
