I am taken you back to Paris, yes a never ending story, The eternal city never stop amazing me of its beauty and things to see even if worked in it for almost 10 years while visiting zillion times living nearby in Versailles, Once again, found me pictures in my cd rom vault ,that should be in my blog for you and me, This is an unique church in Paris ;worth the detour , me think. Therefore, here is my take on the Church Notre Dame du Liban of Paris !! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Church Notre Dame du Liban is a Maronite church dedicated to the Eastern Catholic faith of the Syriac Antiochian tradition. It is located at 15-17 rue d’Ulm in the 5éme arrondissement of Paris, within the grounds of the Curie Institute, and is affiliated with the Franco-Lebanese Center and the Maronite Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon in Paris.

It was built around 1893, and was inaugurated on May 13, 1894, and allocated to the Jesuit priests of the Sainte-Geneviève school. Following the 1905 laws on the separation of Church and State, the Jesuits were forced to vacate the church. On July 16, 1915, it was allocated to the Maronite faith. Before, that the Maronites used the Petit Luxembourg chapel for their religious services, In 1937, the Franco-Lebanese community was established around the parish. The church underwent a significant transformation in 2012 when the church became the cathedral of the Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon (equivalent to a diocese). It was erected on July 21, 2012. According to Vatican News, the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lebanon is “the major Maronite church in France.” The Maronites constitute the largest Christian community in Lebanon. A few meters from the cathedral entrance at the corner of Rue d’Ulm and Rue Lhomond is the entrance to the Franco-Lebanese Center. It was inaugurated in 1963 by the Maronite Patriarch. The Church Notre Dame du Liban ( Lebanon), also played a cultural role for over thirty years, with the classical music label Erato making most of its recordings there.

The Church Notre Dame du Liban main attraction is its stained glass. From the beginning, the apse featured very traditional stained glass windows. Then, in the modern era, a significant artistic addition was made: eight new stained glass windows in 2015. These three-light windows, each surmounted by a trefoil tracery, depict the saints of the Maronite Church (Maroun, Charbel, Ephtem, Marina, Thecla, and Rafqa). The stained glass artists gave them a highly original Middle Eastern style that contrasts sharply with the 19C conformism of generic stained glass.
