The Abbaye Saint-Pierre of Moissac, part II !!!

Several years back while visiting my belle France, took a ride into this area. Not aware had some pictures in my cd rom vault and glad to found them! It’s been a while by here but always looking forward to be back,eventually. I like to tell you a bit more on the wonderful abbey, worth the detour , me think. Therefore, here is my take on the Abbaye Saint-Pierre of Moissac, part II !!!  Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The town of Moissac is located in the department of Tarn-et-Garonne no 82 in the Occitanie region of my belle France. The Tarn river crosses the town and throws itself into the Garonne river in Saint-Nicolas-de-la-Grave, after having crossed 98 towns, The town is served by the A62 highway at  7 km from Castelsarrasin, and by the D113 Bordeaux-Marseille road, It is 44 km from Agen, 30 km from Montauban, 71 km from Toulouse, 187 km from Bordeaux, 628 km from Versailles, and 672 km from my current home. The Abbaye Saint Pierre has a wonderful beautiful tympanum of the portal which constitutes the masterpiece of Moissac. Executed in 1130,one of the masterpieces of Romanesque sculpture. it illustrates the vision of Saint John in the book of the Apocalypse of the Parousia of Christ.The tympanum measures 6.5 by 4.5 meters.

The two spans of the choir, the apse to five sides and the chapels are from the 15C. We see there a crucifixion of the 17C. The choir is surrounded by a carved stone fence, from the 16C, behind which a Carolingian apse was done , 17C stalls. In a niche placed under the organ, a Merovingian sarcophagus in white marble of the Pyrenees. From the 11C abbey remains only the massif bell tower-porche, a sort of dungeon with the round way, built for a defensive purpose but whose last floor only dates from the end of the Gothic era. Cloister ,end of the 11C, one of the best preserved in the Christian West.

The nave has preserved part of its furniture, including a virgin of pity of 1476, a charming leak in Egypt of the end of the 15C, as well as an admirable Romanesque Christ of the 12C, and finally a fee of 1485. The Flight into Egypt in polychrome wood : Saint Joseph is from the 17C while the Virgin and Child on the donkey belongs to a group from the end of the 15C.

Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
