Now far away in my new neck of the woods, the Morbihan Breton,and belle France, reminds me again of nostalgic , sentimental cities of my dear Florida,(see posts), I am glad to have found me a couple pictures in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me. After doing the trajects America ,Europe, America, and back to Europe, I like to remind myself of some of the towns I spent a lot of my time and life while in Florida ,a special place ; the title is simple but the meaning is huge for us, Therefore, here is my take on this is Daytona Beach Shores !!!  Hope you enjoy this post as I.

The City of Daytona Beach Shores was first organized in 1960 by local business leaders and the city was incorporated on April 22, 1960. The city is located on a barrier island along the Atlantic ocean or what locals call beachside. The west side of the island is bordered by the Halifax River lagoon, part of the Intracoastal Waterway. The city is bordered on the north by Daytona Beach and on the south by Wilbur by the Sea, and Port Orange. The major highway that serves the city is State Road A1A (Atlantic Avenue). This 5.5-mile section of beach located just south of Daytona Beach is home to only 5,500 locals, and features many attractions commemorating the racing industry, making it one of the best Daytona Beach beaches for racing fans. I have great memories of hangout here for long period of the day soaking the sunshine and chasing surfing girls ! The Sunglow Pier was the meeting place ! It is located at 3701 S. Atlantic Ave (A1A). The pier extends 1000 feet ( about 303 meters) into the Atlantic Ocean. You can sightsee or go fishing from the pier It is home to Crabby Joe’s Deck & Grill ; a classic here and a must to visit to enjoy the seafood and the views ! While fishing is no longer available from the pier, Crabby Joe’s offers over-the-ocean dining that serves up delicious coastal cuisine. Enjoy the walk over the waves to your table as well as the breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. While searching for updates on the pier read in local newspaper that the Sunglow Pier is in new hands, and new activity at the pier is on the horizon , but  Crabby Joe’s restaurant, a longtime destination, will be staying. Westgate Resorts CEO Jim Gissy, who leads Orlando-based Gissy Family Investments, closed the purchase in early November 2025, After all good news !

The nearest park of Dahlia Avenue Park located about ½ mile south of Dunlawton Avenue between 3621 and 3629 S. Atlantic Avenue. This park features access to the beach, restrooms and picnic tables. It also offers a great view of Sunglow Pier. It is owned and maintained by Volusia County. Despite being quite busy, it offers peaceful surroundings with ample parking. The beach features both stairs and a ramp, making it perfect for families with kids. The low tide creates small pools for children to play in, and the park also includes clean restrooms, a playground, picnic areas with grills, and beach access via ramps or steps.

Other things to do in this wonderful beachside City are Fornari Park (next to the Holiday Inn Express Hotel on A1A). McEroy Park (behind the City Senior Center). The city’s largest park covers more than three acres and includes a baseball field, basketball and tennis courts, a playground, picnic tables, restrooms and other facilities. Frank Rendon Park, 2705 South Atlantic Ave. Offers sheltered picnic areas, grills, children’s playground with padded floor, disability-accessible restrooms, water fountain, outdoor showers, 141 off-street parking spaces, handicapped parking, wheelchair accessible wooden beach walkway, wooden observation deck, beach wheels. Sunset Park; South Peninsula Dr (approximately one mile north of Dunlawton Avenue). Overlooks the Intercoastal Waterway. The Congo River Adventure Golf, 2100 South Atlantic Ave,(Daytona Beach done!)  Features an 18-hole miniature golf course with an airplane, waterfalls and a “volcano” as scenery. Pirate Island Adventure Golf, 3420 South Atlantic Ave, Also, Oceans Racquet and Recreation Club, 3000 South Atlantic Ave, City-owned and operated public tennis facility with one hard court and eight clay courts, with lights and Oceans Golf Club, 2 Oceans West Blvd semi private, non-profit golf course, open to the public. 13 holes, par 3.

There you go folks, now you have more of my Florida,and me to dwell on it longer, We fondly remembered the Sunshine State, and love it. We made a decision to move to France and we do not regretted either as it has been a roller coaster of fun and memories. Now ,the French reason is gone, but we still very much attach to France thanks to her courage and determination. My Martine, never to be forgotten, and she loved Florida too.
