Curiosities of Luxembourg Ville, part II !!!

I am inspired to tell you about one of my favorite countries that have not live in yet. Visited several times always in family trips and many memorable moments, we love to visit more, and will be back ,eventually. I have found me pictures in my cd rom vault to do this one for you and me, Therefore, here is my take on curiosities of Luxembourg Ville, part II !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Gare Centrale or central train station of Luxembourg City is located at Place de la Gare. The CFL manages and operates the Luxembourg rail network, the Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg funicular, bus lines, mostly on behalf of the General Road Transport Regime and a car-sharing service called Flex. The station is about 2 km from the upper town or Ville-Haute Granted passed by it several times but never taken trains here fyi,

 The Grand Ducal Palace is done in the renaissance style of the 16C and its the official residence of the Duke of Luxembourg ,chief of State since 1890. It is located not far from the Place Guillaume II.The grand-ducal palace has unquestionably one of the most beautiful façades in the city (Flemish Renaissance, 16C). Majestical interior and splendid above stairs ,it can be visited exclusively during summer. In 1814, Luxembourg, which had become a Grand Duchy, was entrusted personally to the King of the Netherlands and his successors. In 1817, the City/town hall became the Government House, where the king’s governor resided and worked. Thanks to the purchase of houses in the surrounding area, an annex was added to house the Chamber of Deputies, completed in 1859. In 1890, the death without a male heir of the King of the Netherlands transferred the Grand Duchy to a distant cousin of the deceased monarch, Grand Duke Adolphe. He used the palace exclusively, and it became the residence of the sovereign of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

The Grund , yes is a canyon like district right in the city and now a very sought after place to live with plenty of ambiance.  Grund is one of the 24 districts of Luxembourg Ville. It is in this district, located at the foot of the upper city-or Ville-Haute and where the Pétrusse (see post) falls into the Alzette river , a tributary of the Sûre river. The Grund  district, known for its cultural and architectural heritage, is undoubtedly one of the prettiest and most authentic areas of the city. You will have to go down the small cobblestone streets and along the points of water to walk into the Grund. But it’s worth it! It is a good stroll, summer and winter, to enjoy the beautiful landscapes surrounded by trees, stone buildings and old bridges. This is wonderful and a must to see, me think,

The Place Clairefontaine square ,and the statue of Grand Duchess Charlotte who ruled between 1919 and 1964 graces the space done in 1990. It was redesigned in the late 1980s as part of a complete restoration and reconstruction of the whole from the neighborhood , Grouped around the square, one can see a legion of government buildings, mostly former cloisters dating from the 17C.

There you go folks, hope it gives you enough to come to see this magical small country of Luxembourg. We love it ,and can’t wait to be back again, eventually. We had many memories of driving there even just for lunch at the Place d’Armes with the family by car and come back to Versailles sometimes on the same day !!! Yeah road warriors of Europe ! My background comes all the way from Candelaria and Pajara in Tenerife, Spain where my grandparents came from ;not knowing each other then, to Punta Brava, west of Havana, Cuba. There , my parents born in Cuba met and later on I was born there too. 100% guanche (annexed Tenerife to Spain on April 10 ,1496). I left Cuba as many have to Madrid, Spain where I lived for 4 years. Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting. Moving average a home every 5.5 years hopefully this will be my last. Cheers All rights reserved.
