This is a dandy nice architecturally and historically wonderful City in the middle of vineyards of Burgundy. I took some pictures hidden in other posts to create this one as it merits more, me think, This is wonderful Beaune, in the Côte d’Or dept 21 of the Bourgogne-Franche Comte region of my belle France, Therefore, let me tell you on this is Beaune and its wineries !!! Hope you enjoy this post as I.

Founded in 1923 and rooted in the Côte de Beaune, on the edge of the Bois de Corton, La Reine Pédauque experienced its true rise to prominence in the 1930s with the acquisition of the Rôtisserie de la Reine Pédauque in Paris. Its reputation grew, its wines and bottles were meticulously crafted. A legend was born at 2 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Nicolas. The building that housed the renowned wine house, La Reine Pédauque,(see pic) was sold . The imposing 900 m² building, located at the corner of the Boulevard Maréchal Joffre and 2 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Nicolas underwent a complete transformation. While professional offices will occupy the ground floor, the first and second floors will consist of apartments, which are currently in their original condition. It was at this address that we visited back in the 1990’s ! Memories forever,

The Maison Reine Pédauque house takes its name from an almost legendary queen of the early Middle Ages, who is said to have died at the foot of the Corton hill in Burgundy. Its rise began in 1936 with the success of its Parisian restaurant, La Rôtisserie de la Reine Pédauque ;already borrowing its title from a novel by Émile Zola, for which the wine range was initially created. In 1949, it was the first winery to open its cellars to the public. Another innovative move: in 1981, Reine Pédauque was among the first producers to sell its wines in supermarkets. Since then, the house has acquired an international reputation and occupied a major position among Burgundy wines, transforming over the years into a signature brand. La Reine Pédauque was transformed into a brand during the 2000s, passing from one trading house to another: bought by the Pierre-André group, then by Béjot Vins & Terroirs in 2014, itself bought in 2016 by the Alsatian trading group Grands Chais de France, It is now part of its Burgundy subsidiary Maison François Martenot.

Around the corner of Rue Paul Bouchard and 12, rue Paul Chanson ,we had visited two houses back in the 1990’s Bouchard Ainé et fils and Domaine Chanson, (see pic)

When Michel Bouchard settled in Burgundy in 1731 to set up a flourishing enterprise in the fabric trade followed by branching out to become a wine broker, he laid down the family’s Burgundian roots. In 1750, his eldest son, Joseph, followed his father in the family business, anchoring the presence of the Bouchards on the Côte d’Or. Antoine-Philibert , who would be known as “The Centenarian”. Antoine-Philibert Joseph, Joseph’s eldest son, become involved with the familly business. In1828 ,Théodore-Joseph, Antoine-Philibert’s eldest son, starts his own wine brokerage. The Maison Bouchard Aîné et Fils becomes a household name.  1847 : Paul Bouchard, Théodore-Joseph’s eldest son, single-handedly takes over management of the company. It is under this charismatic man, a member of the fifth generation of the family, that Bouchard Aîné expands its business especially on an international level, In 1905, Charles Bouchard takes over the management. In 1929 , Bouchard Aîné & Fils becomes a limited company owned by all of Charles’ children. In 1993, Bouchard Aîné et Fils is bought by the Boisset Family. More than 50 centuries of combined history unite the wineries of the Boisset Collection spanning it California wineries and those it imports. Cistercian monks planted the vineyards of the Clos de Vougeot in 1110, inspiring Domaine de la Vougeraie to this day. Bouchard Aîné & Fils has built its family reputation in Beaune since 1750. Buena Vista Winery is California’s first premium winery, founded in Sonoma in 1857, and the Oakville Grocery has been at the crossroads of Napa Valley since 1881

The Domaine Chanson, founded in 1750 by Simon Very, is one of the oldest producers of Burgundy wines, located in the historic heart of Beaune. In 1847, the Chanson family, under the leadership of Alexis Chanson, took over from the Verry family. In 1900, Clos des Fèves won gold at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. In 1916, the Domaine’s wines conquered the American market. In 1999, Philippe and François Marion-Chanson entrusted the Domaine to the Bollinger Group. In 2025, Thierry Berger took over the management of the Domaine and gave it a new impetus. This Burgundy house now owns vineyards and also buys grapes to vinify in its cellars.

Beaune is a Villages appellation of the Côte de Beaune obtained in 1936. With 84 appellations, your exploration has only just begun! Located in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, between Savigny-lès-Beaune to the north and Pommard to the south, this appellation includes 42 Premiers Crus, i.e. 70% of the vineyard. In the north, the wines are intense while in the south, they are more flexible and rounder. The rarer white wines are made from Chardonnay. They deserve to be tasted young, on the fruit. After 3 to 5 years of aging, they will develop fatty and soft. The red wines of Beaune, made from Pinot Noir, are quite powerful and have a rich aromatic palette supported by fairly elegant tannins. Often full-bodied and spicy, these are wines that can keep well and can even wait 20 years for some. Generally the reds are powerful but with roundness, it has the flattering and emblematic aromatic strength of Pinot Noir in Burgundy.
