I have written before on many things in Paris and sometimes I found me new things not yet in my blog that should be, This is the case lately of finding more pictures in my cd rom vault for you and me. I have written on many of the bridges of Paris this is another nice one to walk over it at least once in your lifetime, Therefore, here is my take on the Pont Louis Philippe of Paris !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The pont Louis-Philippe Bridge is located in the 4éme arrondissement of Paris, It connects the Notre-Dame, to the Saint-Gervais quartier/neighborhood. It is named after the King of the French, Louis-Philippe I. This site is served by metro line 7 at the Pont Marie station. The bridge connects the right bank, specifically the Quai de l’Hôtel de Ville, to the Île Saint-Louis. It is located downstream from the Pont d’Arcole bridge and upstream from the Pont Marie bridge.

On July 29, 1833, to celebrate his accession to the throne following the July Revolution, Louis-Philippe laid the foundation stone of a suspension bridge, initially unnamed, located as an extension of the Rue du Pont-Louis-Philippe (which was created that same year). It crossed the Seine diagonally to the Quai aux Fleurs, passing by the Île Saint-Louis. It was opened to traffic a year later, on July 26, 1834. After the Revolution of 1848, during which it was burned down, it was restored and renamed “Pont de la Réforme” until 1852. To cope with the increase in traffic, it was demolished and replaced by the current bridge in 1860 ; inaugurated on August 15, 1862.This time, it crosses the Seine perpendicularly, spanning its entire width. With a total length of 100 meters and a width of 15.20 meters, the Louis-Philippe Bridge was inaugurated in April 1862. Each of the 4-meter-wide piers placed in the Seine is adorned with a stone wreath of foliage surrounding a metal rosette. The only modification it has undergone since then was the identical replacement of the stone railings, which were severely damaged by the weather, in 1995.

The Rue du Pont-Louis-Philippe begins in the south on the Quai de l’Hôtel-de-Ville and ends 225 meters to the north at No 23, Rue de Rivoli. It bears this name because it leads to the Louis-Philippe Bridge. The street is joined or crossed by several perpendicular streets; at nos, 1 and 4: Rue de l’Hôtel-de-Ville; nos, 11-13: Rue Grenier-sur-l’Eau; nos,14-16: Allée des Justes-de-France and nos 23-25 and 24-26: Rue François-Miron. The street opens onto the Seine and the Louis-Philippe Bridge, which gives it its name. It is continued, on the other side of the Rue de Rivoli, by the Rue Vieille-du-Temple. The street was opened, under its current name, by an ordinance of August 13, 1833, between the Quai de l’Hôtel-de-Ville and the Rue François-Miron on the site of the Hôtel des Barres and the convent of the Filles-de-la-Croix. The notable buildings here are at No. 3: Galerie Agathe Gaillard then Galerie Rouge, an art gallery opened by Agathe Gaillard in 1975; No. 20: François Vidocq had a private detective agency there; he was an adventurer, reformed convict, detective and head of the French police, often considered the father of modern criminology and intelligence policing. No. 22 bis: behind the Louis-Philippe era building, a Renaissance house from the first quarter of the 16C, not visible from the street, features a facade of ashlar stone and brick in which Marie Touchet, the favorite of Charles IX, is said to have lived. At No. 25: rear facade of the city/town hall of the old 4éme arrondissement of Paris.
