This is Créspiéres !!!

As usual lately, digging into my cd rom vault of memories found me new pictures that should be in my blog for you and me. The village of Créspiéres like all in the Yvelines is worth the detour to see in detail ,I was just passing by!  Therefore, this is my take on this is Créspiéres !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The village of Crespières is located in the Yvelines department no, 78 ,in the Île-de-France region of my belle France, It is 4 km from Davron (see post), 18 km from Saint-Germain-en-Laye, 7 km from Orgeval, 11 km from Plaisir, 22 km from Versailles, and 463 km from my current home. It is crossed by the RD 307, which connects Paris to Mareil-sur-Mauldre, and by the RD 198, which connects Les Alluets-le-Roi to Thiverval-Grignon. . I came here from Versailles along the Bd du Roi ,place de la loi left onto Bd Saint Antoine, same road Route de Saint Germain (D186), continue to Route de Versailles same road bear right onto the D307 road dir Bailly continue by Noisy le Roi continue by Saint Nom la Brêteche continue same road by Feucherolles continue on D307 just entering the village bear left onto Rue Michel Desjouis, the shortly a left onto Chemin Pierre Raoul and the castle

The lavoir de Créspières or washhouse, built in the 19C at the place called “Clos du Chaudron,” was completely renovated in 2019. It is one of the largest washhouses in the Yvelines region. It is fed by a spring and features a rare two-basin layout. The upstream basin, with its clear water, was used for rinsing, while the downstream basin was used for washing clothes.

My pictures were from the time they were trying to renovated and finally is done so will post now with older pictures, The Grand Hôtel de Sautour, also known as the Château de Crespières or sometimes the Château des Tourelles, was built from the first half of the 17C, then enlarged and remodeled in subsequent centuries. Occupied by the de Bullion family in the 18C (who also owned the Château de Wideville, not far from Crespières), the castle was sold in 1780 by their heiress, Anne-Julie-Françoise de Crussol, Duchess of La Vallière, to Jean-Baptiste Daniel de Crux. The estate remained in the possession of the Marquises of Crux until 1924. The château was bought in 1960 by Michel de Bourbon-Parme, who lived there until 1989. The château was then acquired by various property developers, who allowed it to slowly deteriorate. In the 2000s, the gardens disappeared and the château fell into ruin. Gladly recently it has been renovated as the Parc des Tournelles for the residents and visitors pleasure.

Other things to see here as usual with more time are the Church Saint-Martin a 12C Romanesque church. The first church in Crespières was built in 950 on an ancient Celtic site. It was replaced by the current church around 1150 and was attached to Notre-Dame-des-Champs in Paris The parish church was added a side aisle in the 13C; the apse was demolished at an unknown date; the cemetery was moved around 1850. The Château de Wideville Castle is a Louis XIII-style castle located on the border of Davron. Built around 1580 for Benoît Milon, the first superintendent of finances under Henry III, it was rebuilt in 1620 by Claude de Bullion. Formerly the residence of Bonabes VI Louis Victurnien Alexis, Marquis de Rougé, it is currently owned by the Italian fashion designer Valentino.

A bit of history tell us that Crespières is etched in its ancient stones. The town boasts impressive 16C farmhouses, with their original stone walls and monumental gateways reaching up to 4 meters in height. These historic agricultural buildings, once used for livestock farming and storage, bear witness to the importance of agriculture in the local economy throughout the centuries. The name “Crespières” is first mentioned in 884 in a confirmation of the possessions of the Abbey of La Croix-Saint-Leufroy granted by King Carloman II. The parish was founded in 918, later becoming a dependency of the Abbey of Saint-Martin-des-Champs in Paris. Crespières was built on the old road from Poissy to Chartres with no fewer than 18 springs!

An anecdote tell us that Georges Brassens, singer-songwriter, acquired a property here, the Moulin de la Bonde (crowded mill) on the banks of the Gally stream, where he lived from 1958 to 1971. In 1958, tired of living in cramped quarters on Impasse Florimont in Paris, at the home of his friend Jeanne le Bonniec, he set his sights on the Moulin de la Bonde, to entertain friends, first and foremost those from his childhood, but also those from the world of music and entertainment. Victor Laville, Émile Miramont, Henri Colpi, Roger Thérond; to those from Basdorf: René Iskin, André Larue; to the anarchists of Le Libertaire; to friends from the world of song and entertainment: Marcel Amont, Guy Béart, Georges Moustaki, Jacques Brel, Pierre Louki, Jean Bertola, Boby Lapointe, Lino Ventura, Raymond Devos, Jean-Pierre Chabrol, Bourvil (a neighbor), Fred Mella (soloist with Les Compagnons de la Chanson), and many others. Loyal to the very end. Only Jeanne refused to come to the mill.  He remained there until 1971, when he moved to Brittany at Lézardrieux in the Côtes d’Armor dept 22.
