This is Andrésy !!!

This is one of those towns we came in my local road warrior trails while living in Versailles, the choices are endless just here alone. It is worth the detour for the quant pretty real towns and villages of my former Yvelines dept 78, I am glad to have found me this picture in my cd rom vault that made me do it for you and me. Therefore, here is my take on this is Andrésy !!!  Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The town of Andrésy is located in the Yvelines department no, 78 ,in the Île-de-France region of my belle France. The territory includes an island in the Seine, Île Nancy, It is 33 km from Paris, 11 km from Saint-Germain-en-Laye, 29 km from Versailles, and 484 km from my current home, The D55 road constitutes a bypass of the town between the north and the south. The Boussiron bridge on the D48 connects the town to Conflans-Sainte-Honorine.We came here from Versailles along the D186 dir St Germain en Laye to connect with the A13 autoroute de Normandie on exit/sortie 6 dir Rouen get off at exit/sortie 7 dir Poissy on the D113 road continue and bear rigth onto the D153 dir Poissy in town by the Rue Saint Louis passed by the Collegiale Church Notre Dame to be on the D30 road continue go over the railroad tracks of Poissy RER station continue bear left onto Rue Maxime Laubeuf on the D190 road cross the pont de Poissy bridge over the Seine river and continue then bear rigtht onto Bd Pelletier or D55 road passing by Carrières-sous-Poissy continue passing railroad tracks of the town continue in town roundpoint bear right onto rue de Triel go over the railroad track and bear left onto Rue de la Gare continue to the Seine river bear left onto Bd Noël Marc passing by the City hall and we went further on our road warrior trails,

The City/town hall is done in the Louis XV style, built in 1861. This villa, known as the Tilleuls, belonged to Jean-Baptiste de Dosme , a couturier under the Empire. It was bought by the town in 1946 and became the current City/town hall in 1948. A nice ride along the majestic Seine river !

Other things to see here are the Saint-Germain Church,on Boulevard Noël-Marc, dating from the end of the 12C to the first quarter of the 13C. The residence known as Rêve Cottage, at 18, avenue de Fin-d’Oise. This building was the home of Georges Gourlin, mayor of Andrésy from 1919 to 1924. Now divided into two separate dwellings, the Rêve Cottage includes a Chinese pavilion from a World’s Fair; and a dwelling, originally a stable. The Andrésy lock dam, immediately downstream from the confluence of the Seine and the Oise rivers ,The Château du Faÿ private property in a high forest park of approximately 40 hectares. It is assumed that King Henry IV lived for some time in the Château du Faÿ, during the siege of Paris in 1590.

A bit of history I like tell us that in the 1C BC, Julius Caesar and the Romans set up a fleet, under the name of Classis Anderitianorum, to monitor the confluence of the Seine and the Oise rivers. The Anderitians settled permanently downstream of the confluence and gave the name Undresiacum to their camp, which later became Andresiacum, Anderita and then Andrésy. Under the reign of the Roman emperor Decius (249-251), the Anderitians, who had become polytheists, were converted at the end of the 4C by Saint Nicaise who came to evangelize the banks of the Seine. In the year 500, Clovis donated the land of Andrésy, by royal act, to the bishopric of Paris, which ensured its protection and security. This donation was confirmed six times from Charlemagne to Charles VII. Under Inchadus successor of Erchanrade I, the Eighth Council of Paris took place on June 6, 829, where it was decided that Andrésy would depend on Saint-Germain-des-Prés abbey. During the Hundred Years’ War, the village was occupied by the English from 1346 to 1423, until its liberation by Charles VII in 1441. In 1592, Andrésy was one of the villages chosen to hold conferences on the subject of the conversion of Henry IV. In 1775, the town became the property of the Bourbon-Condé family, then in 1779, of Princess Marie-Charlotte de Rohan-Bourbon, then of Marie-Louise de Rohan-Soubise, governess of the children of France. Subsequently, the canons of the Paris chapter exchanged the land of Vélizy for that of Andrésy and remained the sole owners until the French revolution. After Napoleon Ier took power, the inhabitants of the town had to endure the occupation of the Allies and submit to their requisitions. Until 1870, the town enjoyed great prosperity. When the Franco-Prussian War broke out, two Prussian divisions stayed in the region but did not live in Andrésy. During the Great War or WWI, the town hosted troops in cantonment. During WWII, the nazis settled in Andrésy from June 13, 1940. The town was liberated on August 19, 1944.
