I have mentioned numerous posts on my road warrior trails of my belle France in my blog, However, I have ridden plenty of trains as well and was a frequent traveler with the SNCF due to my business trips, I came upon a booklet received from my Morbihan that made me do this post for you and me, Therefore, here is my take on my train stations of the Morbihan !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I,
My first ever trip by train ride into the region of Bretagne was a train from Paris Montparnasse to Rennes on a business trip while still living in Versailles, therefore, Rennes is my first train station in Bretagne ! This I believe was back in 2004 ! Lots of rail km after that of course,
When moving to the Morbihan first renting in Brec’h from 2011 and later owning a house in Pluvigner from 2013, I used the train station in Auray for my trips to Paris, especially on TGV to Montparnasse. Also, using TER from here for connections in Redon, Le Mans, or Rennes or Nantes airport. Later on, there was plenty of parking and better schedules from Vannes train station ,so moved there for my trips.

My longest personal trip took me from Auray train station were on TER Bretagne train service to Rennes, passing by Vannes, Questermbert, and Redon. At Rennes we change train to a TGV direction Marseille lol!!! but stop at Massy–Palaiseau while passing, Laval, and Le Mans, then at Massey TGV station took another TGV train direction Brussels passing by Marne-la-Vallée Chessy (Disneyland) and finally stopping at Roissy CDG T2 SNCF station !!
The train station or gare de Vannes is a railway station on the line from Savenay to Landerneau, located in the gare or train station neighborhood, on the territory of the city of Vannes. It notably serves the Gulf of Morbihan. You can make by train direct from Paris Montparnasse or even Roissy CDG with less frequency. For ticketing and information see SNCF Voyageurs 7 place de la Gare also boutiques Galerie commerciale Carrefour and Boutique SNCF Centre at 5 place du Poids Public in old town. The Vannes train station, I took many times from 2014 to 2018 almost weekly and it is tops, full facilities free parking and services . Vannes is served by the TGV and regional express trains such as TER Bretagne and TER Pays de la Loire. It is served by the TGV inOui and Ouigo from the relationship between Quimper and Paris-Montparnasse via Rennes and Redon.

A bit of history on the gares or train stations in my Morbihan, It was Napoléon III which Brittany owed its railroads as he was constraint of doing the trip in horse carriage, we are in 1858 and the line Savenay to Châteaulin passing by Auray opened in September 21 1862; two years later came the line Auray to Pontivy and in 1882 opened the line Auray to Quiberon, In 1901, a tramway line opened between Etel and La Trinité sur Mer, Difficult to mention about the train stations because in the 19C where the train stop was simply a pole on a quay ; today there are 4 train stations in the Auray area on the TER lines and 7 more along the run of the Tire Bouchon train line until the Gare Maritime of Quiberon, There were former stations at Lambel, Camors and even in my Pluvigner on the line Auray to Quiberon, One reason we still have the rue de la gare ( station street) in town, The lines on the TER network are Sainte Anne at Pluneret, Auray, Landaul-Mendon at Landaul and Landévant, The 8 station on the traject of the Tire Bouchon are Auray ; Belz-Ploemel, Plouharnel-Carnac, Les Sables Blanc, Penthiévre, the isthm,Kerhostin, Saint Pierre de Quiberon and Quiberon,
The Gare d’Auray recently renovated coming from a pole quay to what we see today (see post), It now has a rotonda similar to the Parisian stations In the 19C the station it has a locomotive depot in a star system serving several Breton train stations ,also repairs and maintenance of trains, The Lambel Camors line now mostly merchandise trains pass by it but also, the Napoléon Express stopped here The Sainte Anne-Pluneret station has the peculiarity to have a statue of the Virgin only one in France ! Built in 1862 it was a passage way of pilgrims to go to the Basilica of Sainte Anne in Sainte Anne d’Auray (see posts), The cafés and hotels along their way were plenty, Like the café beg du in Brec’h and the quartier or neighborhood of Dakar in Auray, and the street rue Jean Jaurés named the Le Chemin noir or the black rail,

There you go folks, wonderful train station and grand renovation on both ,especially Auray just 14 km (about 9 mi) from my house, and Vannes just 27 km (about 17 mi) from my house. Easy connections from/to Paris, and even had friends visit me here ! This is my nostalgic post on a memorable period of my life,, Again, hope you have enjoy the post on my train stations of the Morbihan !!! as I.
