I bring you back to my beautiful Morbihan and wonderful Presqu’Ïle de Rhuys where we have the main city Sarzeau. The area here is filled with castles but unlike other areas of my belle France, here they are mostly still private properties. On my way out of the peninsula, I saw another one ! Therefore, let me tell you again about the other castles of Sarzeau, part II !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.
I have to say as many here do with pride, this is the only administrative department of France that the name is not French! You will be in Dept 56 Morbihan or in French would be Petite Mer, small sea. This is what is call in Breton language, Mor=sea bihan=small. And you should know my lovely Brittany is Bretagne in French but in local Breton is Breizh! and further France is Bro-C’hall, And now you come into the Presqu’île de Rhuys or the Rhuys peninsula to visit the nice small town of Sarzeau.
The Villa Coëtihuel, or Château de Coët-Ihuel, is situated in the Coët-Ihuel hamlet, on the RD780 road connecting the towns of Arzon and Sarzeau. I happened to see this week passing on to port Navalo, and my first time !!! The castle/villa features eclectic architecture, blending neo-medieval, Art Nouveau, and regionalist influences. The main facade is asymmetrical. Most of the decorations, both internal and external, are made of flamed sandstone. The interior architecture is organized around an imposing central hall, from which opens an arcaded gallery providing access to the bedrooms. The originality of the interior layout lies in its articulation around a vast central hall, the equivalent of two stories high, from which opens an arcaded gallery providing access to the upper-floor bedrooms.

A manor house probably of medieval origin, owned in 1578 by Jean du Len, who had a first manor built there, and later by the Thomas family in 1660. It was destroyed during the 1870s, with the exception of the Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Secours Chapel, dating from 1720, and a pavilion from 1830. The current villa was built in 1908. It passed to the Massiet du Biest family, the current owners, in 1935. Private property, not open to the public. I just took a pic passing by great shot and beautiful architecture !
