Curiosities of Vannes , part VII !!!

As said, we come by here always, we eat here , enjoy it here ,ride boats here, and do shopping galore on many items yet I need to tell you more,with new pictures from my latest round in town always here but sometimes need to tell you more for you and me, I will tell you a bit more on favorites spots in my capital City of Vannes,  in my beautiful  Morbihan  dept 56, in my lovely Bretagne,  and in my belle France. Therefore, here again the curiosities of Vannes , part VII !!! Hope you enjoy it as I 

The Lavoir de la Garenne or Garenne washhouses are a former public washhouse, very close to the ramparts. Originally dating from the 17-18C, these washhouses were actually built between 1797 and 1807. To cope with the influx of washerwomen, they were enlarged twenty years later, between 1827 and 1831, It became private property, and were acquired by the City/town hall of Vannes in 1928. Laundry in the dirty waters of the Marle river was prohibited by the city in 1951. The washing machines then fell back on other washhouses located upstream, close to the prefecture in washhouses opened between 1923 and 19652, or at the Etang au Duc, or lake of dukes until 1962, The Le Marle, “the river of Vannes” ensured its water supply before mixing with the Gulf waters. In the heyday, the washerwomen used to come here to do their laundry. The whole washouse or lavoir building is about 40 meters long, protected by a slate roof. The first building, a rectangle of about 13 × 7 meters is built of timber with exposed beams.  Upstairs, it now houses the heritage animation service. On the ground floor: exhibition rooms.  

The préfecture of Morbihan is the capital of the department of Morbihan (56). It houses the prefect and the services of the prefecture. Inaugurated in 1865 under Napoleon III, the new prefecture of Morbihan is built on the site of the former Jacobin convent very close to the Saint-Patern district. This building, built on a U-shaped plan, is similar to the Louis XIII style with its body 30 meters wide. The decor of the pediment refers to the Empire (imperial eagle) and Breton history with representations of Nominoë, Count of Vannes, and Alain Barbetorte, two heroes of Breton independence. The Hôtel de la Préfecture as officially known is surrounded by a five-hectare park. Most of it is made up of an English garden designed in 1862 by Louis-Sulpice Varé, landscape architect from Paris, author of the Bois de Boulogne. Placed below the archives wing, a French garden of 5,000 m2 was redesigned in 1975. And we metered parked here easy !

Jardin des remparts or garden of the ramparts This site is one of the florets of the Vannetais gardens. Several accesses allow you to walk there along the Marle River. For the record, know that for the only garden of the ramparts, 30,000 flowers are necessary for its decoration. A playground, on the prison side, is reserved for young children. You can see the saule pleureur or weeping willow tree in the jardin des remparts along the Marle stream with a view afar of the Church Saint Patern belltower (see post) !

An imposing building built in street alignment on a large corner plot. With a double depth plan, the building shows an elevation on a mezzanine of 4 square floors under a circular dome and 2 square floors under a roof with long broken sides. The corner part is treated as a rotunda on high arcades and receives a neo-classical limestone decoration. For the construction of the dome, the building is made of reinforced concrete coated using the Hennebique process. Partial base in granite. Built for Mr. Chevreau, on plans drawn up on November 14, 1912 construction started in 1914, and was completed in 1923 “Au progrès” then “Saint-Rémy” and then Burton (see post), still today Au Progrés are the successive signs of the commercial stores installed on the ground floor and mezzanine of the building.

There , my parents born in Cuba met and later on I was born there too. 100% guanche (annexed Tenerife to Spain on April 10 ,1496). I left Cuba as many have to Madrid, Spain where I lived for 4 years. Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
