Curiosities of Roscoff !!!

This one was going way north in my lovely Bretagne,always searching for new places in my magical world of France.Going over to our neighboring dept 29 Finistére is an usual habit by now, and this time got to the extreme north ; therefore, we have Roscoff!  I found me again, pictures in my cd rom vault that should be here, Therefore, let me tell you about curiosities of Roscoff !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The town is very touristic and seafarer, with lots of British influx due to the Brittany Ferry trips. We hit first the ferry port and saw the many cars lining up to go over the manche… This is a busy port indeed with 85% British visitors , almost like been in UK.

The town of Roscoff is very lovely with vibrant activities and plenty to shop for souvenirs and eating places. I rather think the beaches are great in season and one must come early for space.  The petit train is always a nice family riden especially if small children.

There is a nice quant phare or lighthouse, 24 meters high, was built in 1934 to replace a red lantern that dated from 1884 and was located at the end of the mole. Its two-meters diameter lantern illuminates by occultation twelve seconds on two areas of a white fire up to 15 nautical miles thanks to a fixed optic by Henry-Lepaute  One of the symbols of the town of Roscoff.

The Rue Gambetta has the Chapelle Sainte-Anne,at no 33 ,today the tourist office, We have nice memories of stopping for some snacks/groceries at the La Tit’Epicerie, 9 Rue Gambetta, And see the picture of the house on no 31 rue Gambetta ;house built during the 2nd half of the 16C for a shipowner or merchant. The Maison Gaillard, there is a stone with the date 1598 actually comes from another older house in Roscoff. The house was built by the Gaillard family, a doctor from Paris, and Vickers, an ethnographer. Then the original house was rebuilt in neo-Gothic style to the extreme. On the facade, a sculpture represents a hunchbacked character, a peasant sailor, holding a braid in his hand. This sculpture is the very first representation of onion merchants in the Breton public space On this square now name Place Lacaze-Duthiers , zoologist, founder of the maritime zoological stations of Roscoff and Banyuls, He studied the anatomy of mollusks and published a natural history of coral (1863). He was received into the Academy of Sciences in 1871, and into that of Medicine in 1886.

We just took a peek at the casino for old times’ sake. The Roscoff Casino is open year-round, 7 days a week. It features slot machines, English roulette, blackjack, and electronic roulette. Admission is restricted to adults who are not banned from gambling; a valid ID is required. The Roscoff Casino also houses a bar and the restaurant “Le Hublot,” offering a wide range of entertainment and shows throughout the year. Restaurant access: Families are welcome, and no ID is required to enter.

There , my parents born in Cuba met and later on I was born there too. 100% guanche (annexed Tenerife to Spain on April 10 ,1496). I left Cuba as many have to Madrid, Spain where I lived for 4 years. Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
