Again in my road warrior mode and again, finding me older pictures new to the blog that should be here for you and me ! This is a passing town that glad to find me a nice picture to show in my blog for the memories of always. This is Pleubian in the dept 22 of Côtes d’Armor in my lovely Bretagne and of my belle France. The town is 32 km from Perros-Guirec, 37 km from Guingamp, 61 km from Saint Brieuc, and 141 km from my current home up the D767 road, Therefore, Let me tell you about this is Pleubian !!! Hope you enjoy it as I
Pleubian is located between Paimpol and Tréguier and borders the Breton coast. Located near the island of Bréhat, this town is home to famous Breton places, The main thing to see here me think is the Church Saint Georges 19C.
The Church Saint-Georges in granite and shale, has a bell tower whose design was developed in the 16C, built on the ruins of an older church of Saint-Maudez and destroyed by Norman invasions, its oldest pillars date from the 13C. In 1886, the double aisles and the campanile were rebuilt and organs were installed. In 1889, the sacristy was rebuilt. The restoration of the church was done at the end of the 19C. It is here that Saint-Yves frequently preached, in the priory of adjoining Benedictines, erected in 1034. The church has beautiful banners, a polychrome wooden pieta from the 15C, the statues of Saint Comes and Saint Damien, the relics (17C) of Saint Vincent Ferrier (Spanish preacher, died in 1515 in Vannes),The preaching exterior pulpit dates back to the 15C. There are many funeral tiles on the ground. This Church Saint-Georges is rich in three ex-voto, all three of the three-masts with square sails. The first of these ex-voto is the “Saint-Antoine”, a commercial vessel whose name and the port of registration (Pleubian) appear at the stern. The second model is a war vessel whose cannons are spread over three bridges. Its name is “Napoleon” and is endowed with a figurehead. Finally the third ship is the “Saint-Georges”, in homage to the Saint-Patron of the Church. This large sailboat with three masts is a procession ex-voto of 19C.

Other things to see here with more time and worth a retour are the Lighthouse of the Heaux of Bréhat (17C): at a height of 47 meters, it is built on a rock . The Calvary Chair (15C) in granite, a height of 2.20 meters, would be the prototype of historiated calvaries, retracing the passion of Christ, The Church Notre-Dame de l’Armor of 1932 which mixes classic and modern styles, nouveau and Celtic, the ruins of the semaphore of Creac’h Maoût: culminating at 41 meters above sea level, this old semaphore offers an unbearable panoramic view on the Jaudy estuary, the Talbert furrow, the Heaux lighthouse, the Pointe de l’Arcouest and the island of Bréhat. The B17 museum, which commemorates the B17 aircraft downed in the town of Pleubian and Kerbors in 1943.
A bit of history I like tell us that the town of Pleubian would be founded and evangelized by Saint Maudez in the 6C, Until the French revolution, the parish of Pleubian belongs to the Saint-Georges Abbey in Rennes which has had a priory of Benedictines since the year 1034, In 1943, two B17 planes, affected by the nazis DCA, crushed around Pleubian. The Yardbird crashed on May 29 in Pleubian while the Stinky Weather fell to Kerbors on December 31. On August 6, 1944, FFI resistance fighters captured the nazi garrison which occupied the semaphore of Pleubian and liberated the iodine factory of Penn Lann. But nazis troops from Lizardrieux, equipped with mortars and artillery, came to freed their comrades; The resistance fighters fled, but 21 of them felled prisioners. After the complete withdrawal of the nazis on August 16, 1944, a trench containing their bodies, which had been excrutedly tortured, was discovered near the semaphore.
