Hope you enjoy the post as I carnac-mus-pre-history-front-entr-may18 For the record, the full name is the Musée de Préhistoire James Miln Zacharie Le Rouzic of Carnac, and is of course in my beautiful Morbihan dept 56 of mylovely region of Bretagne. The James Miln Prehistory Museum or Zacharie Le Rouzic, created in 1881 following the legacy of James Miln, is a monothematic museum. It also bears the name of the archaeologist Zacharie Le Rouzic. Located in the town center , it has been installed since 1978 in the old presbytery dating from 1877. It was inaugurated as a museum in 1985.  It is considered the first museum in the world for the knowledge of megaliths. carnac-mus-prehistoire-front-jun20 Following a chronological itinerary, you will discover a rich collection of pottery, ceramics, flint tools or ornaments, which allows you to touch the finger the daily life of the former inhabitants of Carnac! Through plans, models and objects found during the excavations, you also will understand the evolution of funerary architecture. In all, more than 6,600 objects are on display, with a particular predilection for the Neolithic period, which saw the birth of the first megaliths. In summer, activities are offered by the museum, including the discovery of prehistoric musical instruments or the demonstration of engraving on granite. carnac-mus-prehistoire-side-jun20 The Neolithic period is particularly developed: it corresponds to the period of construction of the megaliths, real stone architectures made by men to bury their dead (dolmen, tumulus …) or more symbolic (alignments etc.). The evolution of funerary architecture is traced, from corridor dolmens to covered alleys. Daily life is told using objects found on archaeological sites (ceramics, flint tools, polished axes, ornaments …). The works, a real working museum of knowledge of our early worlds. Fun for the whole family. We always find easy parking at the place de la Chapelle next to the museum, and right by the tourist office. The best way to come here as train or bus is limited and mostly in Summers.
