The beaches of Fouesnant !!!

Let me tell you a bit about Fouesnant, in the Finistére dept 29 of my lovely Bretagne and in my belle France. As the coasts around here are all wonderful. There is so much to see in architecture and history, We made the best of the day and visited this new town in my world map. Therefore, let me tell you again about the beaches of Fouesnant !!! Hope you enjoy it as I,

Beg Meil is part of the town of Fouesnant , located on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. It is a renowned seaside resort. Beg Meil is a peninsula, surrounded in the east by the bay of the forest and in the south by the Atlantic Ocean, of the town Fouesnant-les Glénan, which gave its name to a hamlet, as well as to the pointe de Beg Meil, located at the southeast end of this peninsula.

It is at Beg Mail , near the tip (pointe), on the south side, that there are two coves. The plage des Dunes beach is the main one , even thus it h as more cliffs than dunes,,,. Next to it we find that of plage de Kermyl. Both are great with sand, cliffs and rocks … A pleasant environment and reasonable attendance. On the other hand, the two are not monitored … So cautious because in this sector the ocean can be unleashed ..We access this beach directly by the road D45. At the end, the parking lot of the Dunes beach is indicated. Small snack at the stairs in the parking lot.

Near the above, we find the plage de Kerambigorn beach. Starting point for a large sandy beach of 3.5 km long bordered by a pleasant dune in a preserved environment, it opens onto an ocean often unleashed in winter. In clear weather, you can even see the Glénan archipelago at about 15 km. In summer, the beach was monitored from 13h to 19h In the season, a small snack is installed near the parking lot and offers snacks. Free parking. You can easily reach the other sectors of the beach on foot and the neighboring coves of Beg Meil.

The Sémaphore de Beg Meil was built in 1861 at the Pointe de Beg Meil near an old guardhouse built in the 18C ,abandoned since the fall of the first empire, and nearly two batteries designed to protect the coast against the forays of the English. It monitors the forest bay and approaches to the Glénan archipelago, Today, it is a military zone no access just see it walking on the dune.

An interesting blockhaus took to find out it houses bats! The ONF and Kallista Energy have teamed up to restore new use to these blockhouses by transforming them permanently into a winter shelter for bats that populate this site. The blockhouses were thus put to accommodate bats, in greater numbers and different species. This is by the plage des Dunes beach. Go figure
