Curiosities of Janzé !!

I am back into my best mode, road warrior! I am looking to find new areas not visited or hardly passing by for a more in depth look, and I am thrill to share it with the world! I came to Janzé. The town is  located in the department 35 of Ille-et-Vilaine in my lovely Bretagne region, It is located 26 km from Rennes, and 32 km from Vitré, and  148 km from my house. Therefore, on this new trip, let me tell you about the curiosities of Janzé !! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The town of Janzé is not the district capital as this was preferred after the French revolution to be La Guerche de Bretagne (see post). The D173 is part of the connection between Rennes and Angers, via Corps-Nuds, Janzé, Retiers, Martigné-Ferchaud, Pouancé, Segré and Le Lion-d’Angers.  And the D 777 linked Ernée to Questembert. The railway line from Châteaubriant to Rennes crosses the town. The gare de Janzé train station was built in 1880 and the inauguration of the railway line (line from Châteaubriant to Rennes) took place on December 28, 1881. The name Janzé appears for the first time in 1216; the locality then depended on the lords of Brie, who owned the lordship of the Desert.

The town of Janzé had, until the French revolution, two parishes: Saint-Martin which belonged to the abbey of Marmoutier in Touraine at the end of the 11C and Saint-Pierre probably linked to the foundation of the priory of Nero, in Amanlis, which depended on the Saint-Melaine abbey of Rennes. The old Saint-Pierre church was decommissioned during the French revolution and transformed successively during the 19C into a grain market, a prison, then a school, successively for boys, then for girls, between 1835 and 1911. It is now the “Maison Saint-Pierre”, a city property. The Saint-Pierre parish was abolished in 1803 and united with the Saint-Martin parish. The Saint-Pierre church which still exists in part (3, rue Saint-Pierre) after many transformations has been the subject of a series of successive conversions (barn, housing, halls, school, agricultural cooperative, night bar ). The presbytery of Saint-Pierre was occupied by the Saint-Martin clergy.

The old wooden halles or market were located opposite the old Saint-Martin Church: they housed shops, but also the City/town hall and the auditorium, The town hall and its Place de l’Hôtel de Ville square stand on the site of the old Saint-Martin church and its enclosure, the layout of which is still legible in the shape of the current square. A new City/town hall, was built in 1886, after the demolition of the said church in 1880, At the now square you see remnants of the small old church St Pierre now housing the pizzeria Pia ‘za !at no, 6.

Other interesting sites to see around here with more time are the Château de La Jaroussaye (located between the Châteaugiron and Amanlis roads). The center of the current construction dates from the 15C. The Château de La Jaroussaye is today occupied by the Rural Institute, Château de La Tullaye (located on the road to Bain-de-Bretagne). The oldest mention given of this castle, 1360 ,and Château de la Franceule, built at the beginning of the 20C,
