And here I am again to tell you about another wonderful market or marché or halles when covered of my lovely Bretagne. Now I am in Morlaix, dept 29 Finistére. Lovely port town and vibrant market indeed. This is an update of an older post on one of my favorite subjects in France, the markets!
Throughout the year, on Saturdays, rain or shine, Morlaix comes alive: on the forecourt of the city/town hall settles the non-food market until 19h in summer (16h in winter) , while Place d’Allende receives the food market until 13h30. You can stroll among the stalls, meet local traditional or organic producers, choose flowers, clothes or simply enjoy the atmosphere.
The old covered market halls of the closed city of Morlaix, sometimes called the crush, are the heart of the retail trade of the city. They are close to the audience of the royal court of Morlaix. Replaced by large metal halls in the 19C at the expense of a whole block, then razed in the 20C to create a parking, their location still hosts today’s food market on Saturday morning.
