And another dandy spot of my dear Versailles. This is in the off the beaten path category but worth a passing by at least me think, I lived at Notre Dame district !!! not far but just passing by another sight to get away from just the palace/museum; as said, Versailles has a lot more to offer. I found me this picture in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me, Therefore, here is my take again on the Chapelle du couvent des Sœurs Servantes du Sacré-Cœur de Jésus of Versailles !! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Chapelle du couvent des Sœurs Servantes du Sacré-Cœur de Jésus or the Chapel of the convent of the Sisters Servants of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is located at 109 avenue de Paris The chapel’s facade and its Neo-Romanesque portal , and the upper half can be seen from Avenue de Paris.(see pic) The harmonious facade features a portal with a barrel-vaulted archivolt. The double doors are flanked by two jambs. It is surmounted by a triplet of round-arched windows. In the center of the gable, a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus stands within a mandorla. Two polygonal towers pierced with round-arched windows flank this facade. The clerestory windows contain figurative stained glass that contrasts with the geometric patterns of the nave’s stained glass.

The Chapel of the Convent of the Servants of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is in a very academic Neo-Romanesque style. It is reminiscent of the stained-glass windows in the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament in Paris’s 16éme arrondissement, but the Versailles chapel boasts a much more elaborate design. The figurative stained-glass windows in the chancel contrast with the nave’s windows, composed of panels in a distinctly 19C style, featuring geometric patterns embellished with a liturgical or biblical symbol at their center.. As for the chapel’s construction, by analogy with that of the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, it is assume it dates from the very beginning of the 20C.

The Congregation of the Servants of the Sacred Heart of Jesus does not make its nuns contemplative. Founded in Paris by Father Pierre-Victor Braun in 1866 in Grenelle ,Paris with branches in France, England, and Austria, this congregation is open to the secular world. Besides conveying the message of religion, Father Braun established a rule based on service, fellowship, joy, and friendship with the most vulnerable. Thus, the nuns provide accommodation for young female students and welcome groups wishing to undertake a retreat. They also maintain a social and spiritual presence in their neighborhood. It is a female religious congregation of hospital work under pontifical right. Since 2003, they have been federated with two congregations that emerged from their institute: the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary and the Servants of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Vienna. The community was recognized as a religious institute under diocesan right in 1868 by Jean-Pierre Mabile, Bishop of Versailles. In 1885, the sisters established their motherhouse in Versailles.

Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
