The boats cemetery of Magouër in Plouhinec !!!

I am continuing with new finds in my cd rom vaults of wonderful memories forever, I bring you back to Plouhinec in my beautiful Morbihan dept 56 of my lovely Bretagne of my belle France. This is a place that first was found in my road warrior trips in the area , and we have come back for its natural beauty, Therefore, let me tell you a bit on the boats cemetery of Magouër in Plouhinec !!!  Hope you enjoy the post as I.

This is another jewel that is nice for a day with the family and only about 40 minutes from my house. On the coast!!!  A wonderful off the beaten path spot to enjoy by all on any day. The views of the ocean are sublime !! This is Plouhinec in 56 not to be confuse with the one in 29, The town is situated between the Ria of Étel in the east for 17 km and the small Sea of Gâvres on 5 km to the west. To the south the 8 km of beach overlooking the ocean are part of the largest dune of Brittany which extends from the Pointe de Gâvres to the Fort of Penthièvre on the town of Saint-Pierre-Quiberon (part of the wild coast of Quiberon-see post)) .Plouhinec is located 15 km from Lorient, 35 km from Vannes ,147 km from Rennes, and 23 km from my current home. I get here on the D16, D33 dir Landevant to Nostang on the D158 dir Sainte Héléne and to Plouhinec. 

The Boat Cemetery of Magouër is located next to the small fishing village of Magouër part of Plouhinec on the Etel River. It is situated on the golden sandy beach of Magouër, opposite the quays of the town of Etel (see posts), on the right bank of the beautiful Ria d’Etel. It is the final resting place of old tuna boats. The cemetery is one of the emblematic sites of the Ria d’Etel, attracting photographers, painters, and artists to discover the wrecks.

They are the last vestiges of a fleet that numbered up to 250 boats before WWII. This was the era of sail fishing. The crews went fishing for albacore in the Bay of Biscay. Albacore is a white tuna approximately one meter long and weighing up to 25 kg at maturity.  Considering that there are only eleven cemeteries of this type remaining in France, including two in Morbihan, we can only welcome the interest shown in them… just as we can also welcome, with regard to the Magouër cemeteries, the successful outcome of the terrible struggle that had to be waged against their planned destruction in the name of the sacrosanct precautionary principle.

Magouër is the last port on the river before the sea. It is a safe haven after the delicate passage of the Étel bar. The ferryman experience of crossing the ria, not far from the famous Étel bar. The taxi boat service Le Magouër (see post) is a short and convenient connection connects the small port of Magouër in Plouhinec to that of Étel. If the boat is on the other side, step onto the pontoon at the designated boarding location and wave to the captain. He’ll come and get you! You can even bring your bike! Break away from your usual routine; the ferry is an ideal starting point for exploring the Grand Site Dunes Sauvages de Gâvres in Quiberon (see posts) in a different way, without a car. Along the paths, greenway, and cycle paths, explore immense landscapes, rare nature, and traces of the past. Indeed sublime !

Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
