Curiosities of Plumelec !!!

I am on my road warrior trails in my beautiful Morbihan dept 56 of my lovely Bretagne and in my belle France. The views on the roads are wonderful and all is very close to home. I dare go into the back woods of a near town of Plumelec and saw some more wonders to share with you and me, the new pics from my cd rom vault. Do see my other posts on the town in my blog. Therefore, let me tell you about curiosities of Plumelec !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

Plumelec has as neighboring towns are Billio, Saint Jean Brevelay; Cruguel, Lizioi, Sérent, Plaudren, and Trédion. It is 17 km from Josselin, 25 km from Vannes, and 34 km from my current home along the D16 to D115 dir Colpo, around Saint Jean de Brevélay on the D788bis,then D1 to Plumelec, Callac is a village in the town of Plumelec, the hamlet is located about 6 km from the town and about 2 km of the town of Trédion. Callac’s story begins to be documented to the 12C and the construction of its first castle. A medieval lordship with high, average and low justice law, It was raised in barony in 1645 by Louis XIV. Initially owned by the Callac family, the lands successively pass to many families, it welcomed refractory priests and Chouans, In the 1940s and 1950s, the rector Binard had the village erected, at a place called Saint-Joseph, A new pilgrimage place comprising a way of the cross, a cave of Lourdes and a chapel dedicated to Saint Joseph rebuilt in 1962.

The Chemin de Croix or Way of the Cross of Callac is located at a village called Saint-Joseph,itself in a village of Callac, all part of the town of Plumelec 1 km north of Callac and made in granite by the sculptor Roger Lévêque at the request of the abbé Ernest Binard during the years 1940-1950, it also included a replica of the Lourdes cave, a chapel, two crosses, an esplanade for mass outdoors and a well. The fifty characters on a 1 scale that make up the fifteen stations and certain crosses are sculpted in granite. The worn crosses are made of wood. A descriptive panel is associated with each station. The number of stations on the Cross has been fixed in fourteen since the 16C. In Lourdes, the Cross Ceremony ends with a fifteenth station with Marie, in the hope of the resurrection of Christ, The Callac Stations of the Cross resumes this last station. This is the 3rd Stations of the Cross in France after Lourdes and Pontchâteau in terms of monumentality.

To the right of the first station, there is a replica of the Lourdes grotto/cave. The niche welcoming the statue of the Holy Virgin would have been dug in chisel by a single volunteer. It would have been made with iron soil to resist bad weather. The blessing of this cave took place on May 1, 1949, a Marian year. It was completely renovated in the 1st half of 2005. The Abbé Binard created the replica of the Lourdes cave in 1948-49.

At the exit of the 15th station, a large esplanade with an altar and the benches, extends in front of the Chapelle Saint-Joseph Chapel. Father Binard’s tomb niche is erected with the stones of the ruins of a neighboring chapel. He rests in this Saint-Joseph Chapel. The chapel, blessed on August 15, 1962, rebuilt with the ruins of the Chapel of Mont de Guéhenno.

A bit of history tell us that for five years, from 1955 to 1958, each resident of the parish gave five days of work to prune the slate of which the hill is made. Four local sculptors carry out the 51 statues. The blessing was made on June 29, 1958 by the bishop of Vannes, Mgr Le Bellec .
