The Fort du Trou-d’Enfer of Marly le Roi !!!

Lots of history here, and lots of memories visiting and riding once living in Versailles. It has been a while and perhaps nostalgic will bring out more . This town has posts in my blog do read them please. This is worth the wait to see in guided visit for its historical value, me think, Therefore,here is my take on the Fort du Trou-d’Enfer of Marly le Roi !!! Hope you enjoy this post as I.

The Fort du Trou-d’Enfer is part of the Île-de-France region fortifications network. It is located in the town of Marly-le-Roi, in my former Yvelines department no 78 of my belle France. The Fort du Trou-d’Enfer or Fort of Hell’s Hole was built between 1878 and 1881 to house a garrison of 800 men. It is not to be visit alone ,need reservation thru the tourist office or the association, see below,

In 1870, France was partially occupied by the Prussian armies. Following this defeat, the Séré de Rivières system was implemented, which notably allowed for the construction of fortifications to defend Paris. In total, 18 forts, 5 redoubts, and 34 batteries were built between 1874 and 1881. The fort was also known as the “Trou-d’Enfer” redoubt, in connection with the 6 nearby auxiliary batteries at Noisy, Marly, Auberderie, Champ de Mars, Réservoirs, des Arches, and together they formed the “Marly position.” The fort now belongs to the ONF (National Forestry Office) and can be visited.

Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
