The galleries in the Château de Versailles !!!

In my continuing saga of the sublime wonderful Château de Versailles of many nice memories ,see my other posts on it, This is in my former Yvelines dept 78 of the Île de France region ,and my belle France. I have found me an odd pictures in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me, Spaces seldom notice by visitors but a load of history in them, Therefore, here is my take on the galleries in the Château de Versailles !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The history of the Galerie Louis XIII ,the successor to the Galerie Basse commissioned by Louis XIV, was destroyed in the 20C. Built of stone originally supported the terrace on the first floor, before the creation of the Galerie des Glaces. From the mid-18C, the gradual conversion into apartments led to the disappearance of its stone vault and its partitioning. At the time of the French revolution, these rooms were primarily occupied by Marie Antoinette. Under Louis-Philippe, the gallery regained its volumetric unity through a neoclassical renovation. This phase of work included deepening the vestibule de Marbre and leveling the cour de Marbre, Under the 1978 Program Law, the 17C layout was reinterpreted to restore the original organization of the Galerie Basse. This restoration relies on contemporary features: a reconstructed plaster vault, masonry piers made of concrete blocks faced with stone, and a raised floor resting on a crawl space.

The Galerie Basse or Lower Gallery is located on the ground floor and opens directly onto the palace gardens. As a counterpoint to the more famous and richly decorated Hall of Mirrors directly above it, the Lower Gallery exemplifies elegant simplicity and is today used to display a collection of sculptures that once formed part of Louis XIV’s “Grande Commande,” a commission of 24 statues from the foremost sculptors of the day that were intended to decorate the Parterre d’Eau ,but which were transferred to other locations upon delivery due to concerns about the aesthetic effects of the vertical lines of the statues in relation to the garden facade of the chateau.

The aile du Nord,or the North Wing, sometimes called the “Noble Wing,” is located on the north side of the central building of the Palace of Versailles. Built by Jules Hardouin-Mansart between 1685 and 1689, it includes rooms such as: the Chapel (south side, inaugurated in 1710), the Opera House (north side, introduced in 1770), the Crusades Rooms (created by Louis-Philippe by demolishing former courtiers’ apartments), the North Upper Stone Gallery, the North Lower Stone Gallery, the Africa, Crimea, and Italy Rooms (above the Crusades Rooms): the Constantine Room, the Morocco Room, later called the Crimea Room and then the Crimea and Italy Room, the Smala Room, and the History Galleries, inaugurated in 2012. The statues of the Kings of France and Statesmen in the Upper Stone Gallery of the North Wing. These were created from 1835 to 1838 by twelve sculptors commissioned by the royal administration to create thirteen marble pedestal statues, Delivered by the end of the July Monarchy, these works took their place among the approximately eighty sculptures that populated this gallery. The statues lining the gallery represent the great men of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the 17C. The gallery connects the upper vestibule of the chapel to the upper foyer of the Royal Opera.

There , my parents born in Cuba met and later on I was born there too. 100% guanche (annexed Tenerife to Spain on April 10 ,1496). I left Cuba as many have to Madrid, Spain where I lived for 4 years. Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
