This is Villeneuve le Comte !!!

This is one of those place that was near me and visited for its surroundings on my road warrior trails near Disneyland Paris (see posts), and my family enjoyed each visit. I will do this post as again found me pictures in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me. Therefore ,here is my take on this is Villeneuve le Comte !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I

The village of Villeneuve-le-Comte is located in the department no 77 of Seine-et-Marne in the Île-de-France region of my belle France, It is part of the new town of Marne-la-Vallée since 2011 as part of the Val d’Europe Agglomeration with 9 other towns such as Bailly-Romainvilliers, Chessy, Coupvray, Ville d’Esbly; Magny-le-Hongre, Montry, Saint Germain sur Morin, Serris, and Villeneuve Saint Denis. It is located  11 km from Lagny-sur-Marne ,5 km from Serris, 7 km from Bailly-Romainvilliers, 20 km from Meaux, 64 km from Versailles, and 507 km from my current town, I came here from Versailles along Rue des Chantiers by the gare Chantiers continue Rue de Colbert to connect with the N12 highway dir Vélizy-Villacoublay continue same road the A86 outer beltway of Paris continue dir Créteil continue to connect with the A4 autoroute dir Marne la Vallée continue to exit 13 dir Villeneuve le Comte on the D231 road or Route de Paris bear left on place du Maréchal Leclerc and then a quick right onto Place de l’église and the church, You can come here as said by the D231 road and the autoroute A4 with several exits/sorties.

The Church Notre Dame de la Nativité or Our Lady of the Nativity was built between 1205 and 1207 in the early Gothic style. The church features a beautiful portal in bas-relief carved around 1235, depicting a holy bishop on the trumeau. The tympanum, of the sculptured stained glass type, a technique used only between 1230 and 1240, depicts the Nativity. This portal was mutilated in 1562 by the Huguenots during the Wars of Religion.

Notable features inside include a statue of the Virgin in the south aisle chapel, tombstones aligned against the wall from the 13C to the 17C, five sculpted panels from the pew dating from 1643, as well as several canvases and a wooden painting from the 18C. Three calvaries enhance the religious heritage: the first, to the right of the church, on the square, positioned in front of a grove, the second, called “La Croix de Tigeaux,” and the third, on the Chemin de Bailly towards Meaux (see posts).

Other interesting thing to see here is the so-called obelisk is also located in the towns of Dammartin-sur-Tigeaux and Mortcerf. It was built in 1735. Today, it is especially famous among esotericists thanks to the alchemist Fulcanelli, who discusses it in Les Demeures philosophales or the Philosophical Dwellings, published in 1930. The author sees in this monument “the striking representation of the immense fire and flood” that will occur during the Last Judgment.

A bit of history I like tell us it was Gaucher III of Châtillon, Grand Officer of the County of Champagne, Lord of Crécy en Brie, who, upon returning from the 3rd Crusade, decided to found a village in 1203 governed by a charter of franchise. He chose this cleared site in the forest of Crécy, near the border between the County of Champagne and the lands of the King of France. The town was founded to mark the boundary of their territory. A fortified castle was built, of which only the moats remain, a wall, of which only the evocative street names such as “rue des remparts”, and “rue basse des fossés”. On the territory of the village another feudal castle, called “de la Pointe”, of which only ruins remain. In 1226, Hugues V of Châtillon-Saint-Pol gave the Hermitage farm near the village, with 200 acres of arable land, to the Pont-aux-Dames abbey that he had just founded.
