The war memorial bears the names of 393 people who died for France, including 212 during the Great War or WWI, 181 during WWII, 12 during the Indochina War, 4 during the Algerian War, and 14 other people who died on other dates. Plougastel-Daoulas is one of the few towns in France where the number of deaths for France was almost as high during WWII as during WWI, due to those killed during the Liberation battles in 1944.

On December 22, 1990, on the fontaine de l’Imagineur ,water flowed for the first time in the scallop-shaped basin, which housed the earth, the sea, the sky, and a boat with an apple-tree mast, topped with the Moon and the Sun, now gone, like the dial’s hand. On the central square after the demolition of the covered market, today’s Place du Calvaire. The fountain expresses the essential symbolism of Plougastel as life with the world, the dual agricultural and maritime vocation of the peninsula, etc. It is also called the Pilgrim’s Fountain. The pilgrim is depicted there with his dog saying, “See the shadow, you will find the light.” The fountain is recent; its inspiration is the Way of Saint James of Compostela. A figurative ensemble laden with symbols, including two bronze sculptures: the apple tree and the imager harassed by a small dog. This is a large Breton granite basin, shaped like a scallop shell.

The location of the Bistrot de Plougastel restaurant was at 1 Place du Calvaire , This is, where we spent many trips and a couple birthdays for my boys over the years and they love it, Unfortunately ,they closed, here for the memories of always in my blog, For desserts we just walked around the church to the Boulangerie/Pâtesserie/Salon de Thé Mulliner on 5 Rue de l’Église. Under new management since 2022, but the old here for the memories of always, Here we had several sweets and sodas, such as belle hélene, trois chocolates, etc Recognise as the best in Plougastel-Daoulas.
