This is Goudelin !!!

On my road warrior trails ,I passed by many small towns, villages really, this is one of them, and took time to take a picture ; gladly found in my cd rom vault and it should be in my blog for you and me, The village of Goudelin is in the Côtes d’Armor dept 22 of my lovely Bretagne, and in my belle France. Therefore, here is my take on this is Goudelin !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The vilage of Goudelin is located 13 km from Guingamp, 30 km from Saint-Brieuc, 37 km from Tréguier, 124 km from Brest, and 120 km from my current town, It is mainly served by the D9 road, which comes from Guingamp via Le Merzer and heads toward Lanvollon and Saint-Quay-Portrieux; this road intersects in the village with the D67, which comes from Bringolo and heads toward Gommenec’h. However, I came here up in the D768 to connect with the N24 road dir Rennes the fastest way as could go up thru City center Baud all the way on the D768 dir Pontivy past it becomes the D700 same road dir Loudéac, and connect with the N164 quickly coming back to the D700 passing Plœuc-L’Hermitage bear left onto the D7 road past town center of Quintin continue on D7 passing over the N12 and continue to town center of Châtelaudren-Plouagat and bear left onto the D67 passing town center of Goudelin bearing right on place de l’église and the Church Saint Pierre bear left into rue de la Font Pierre continue past over the D9 road and on your left hand side see panel for the Chapel ND de l’Isle.

I came after reading about the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-l’Isle ,The chapel houses the polychrome wooden statue of Notre Dame (Our Lady of the Isle), and that of Saint Eloi, the patron saint of blacksmiths and protector of horses. Inside are the recumbent statues of Guillaume de Goudelin and Marie de Portztrévenon from the 15C. They also feature three paintings, painted in 1859: The Annunciation; Descent from the Cross flanked by two angels; and The Coronation of the Virgin.

The Notre-Dame de l’Isle Chapel founded in 1380 by the monks of Beauport Abbey on the site of an older oratory. The choir dates from the late 14C. The rest is from the 16C. The square bell tower supports a spire dating from 1714: decorated with three pinnacles. The chapel houses a 16C bell. This chapel served as a parish church from 1777 to the French revolution. Ancient statues of Saint Eloi and Saint Joseph; 15C stone Virgin under the porch . Modern statues of Saint Tugdual and Saint Yves.

Other things to see if time permitting me think are the parish Church Saint-Pierre: the , current church dates from the 18C and was the victim of a fire in 1832; its bell tower dates from 1881, its spire is 42 meters high, The church bears the date of 1717, but the current one is of recent construction and contains a beautiful tombstone from the 15C on which is carved, in high relief, a woman lying with clasped hands, near a coffin, The castle of Montjoie: it dates from the 17C, but it was heavily remodeled in 1845 ,and belongs to the Botmiliau family, The castle of Kergoff: it probably dates from the first half of the 19C and is in the neoclassical style, now a private property,

A bit of history I like tell us that the name of the village is of Frankish origin and has existed since 1151. Changing its name several times, the village became Goudelin again at the end of the 14C. The first known church dates from before 1203; the Count of Goëlo and the Lord of La Roche-Derrien, who shared the church, gave, the first his share to the Abbey of Beauport, the second to the Abbey of Beaulieu. During the Wars of the League, looting and fires caused by rival lords in the region; Kerlo Castle was then destroyed. The “white” rector, the one appointed by the Beaulieu Abbey, Antoine-Louis du May, rector since 1780, refused to take the oath of loyalty to the Civil Constitution of the Clergy and, having become a refractory priest, went into exile; the “black” rector ,the one appointed by the abbey of Beauport, François Balthazar Le Provost, rector since 1766, swore the oath of loyalty, thus becoming a swearing priest, before abandoning the priesthood and becoming in 1795 the first mayor of Goudelin, The soldiers of Goudelin particularly paid a heavy price in the Great War or WWI: 112 children of the village felled on the field of honor between 1914 and 1918 , There were 10 soldiers who died for France during WWII including 2 sailors who perished at sea.
