The pont de Bercy of Paris !!!

I was inspire on writing about this wonderful historical bridge of my eternal Paris. The whole world comes to Paris ,and for a good reason, I have done my walks around here even at night and it is sublime ! One more reason to come to the most beautiful City in the world ! I, again, found me a new picture in my cd rom vaults and need to have it in my blog for you and me, Therefore, here is my take on the Pont de Bercy of Paris !!!  Hope you enjoy it as I,

The Pont de Bercy bridge connects the 12éme arrondissement at the foot of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the multi-purpose hall of the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy to the 13éme arrondissement, extending from Boulevard de Bercy and Boulevard Vincent-Auriol. In addition to several vehicule traffic lanes, it supports a railway viaduct used by metro line 6. This site is served by the Quai de la Gare metro station. The Pont de Bercy is located upstream from the Pont Charles de Gaulle and downstream from the Passerelle Simone de Beauvoir. It is named after the former village of Bercy, which has become a district of Paris, to which it leads. It is 175 meters long, with the five spans spanning 29 meters. The beam width is today 35 meters. Its total width is 40 meters.

A bit of history I like tell us that the multi-span, embedded arch bridge was built between 1863 and 1864, raised in 1904, and widened between 1989 and 1992. It was inaugurated in 1864, its reconstruction being part of the overall renovation of the capital desired by Napoleon III and carried out by Baron Haussmann. Until 1832, the crossing between Bercy and La Salpétrière, then outside the limits of Paris, was made by ferry (at the height of the current bridge). On January 24, 1832, Louis Philippe inaugurated, at the height of the Barrière de la Rapée, a toll suspension bridge which was called “Pont d’Orléans” because of the proximity of the Orléans station. Between 1863 and 1864, it was replaced by a masonry structure and took the name “Pont de la Gare” from the name of the Gare district before taking its current name of Pont de Bercy.

  1. I had no idea about this particular bridge in Paris. If you have similar pics and history of le Pont Alexandre Troi it would also be great to see! Your collection of everything “la belle France” is amazing and always great to see, a wonderful documentary, like a personal tour guide.
